Almost daily recap of college hoops ...Plenty of meaningful games over the weekend, namely another top team falling.
#8 Texas 63, #1 UCLA 61
I still like the Bruins long term but the Longhorns continue to impress. James and Augustin paced the upset with 19 points each. Clearly the best way to attack UCLA is by being extremely physical. At 7-0, Texas should be 11-0 going into a showdown with Michigan State and Wisconsin to end the preseason schedule.
#4 Kansas 59, #24 USC 55
Might just be me but it seems quiet on the the Jayhawks front. The schedule bodes well for Kansas to enter Big 12 play undefeated. Unfortunately they don't play Texas until February 11th. OJ Mayo led the Trojans in scoring again with continues to be misleading. 6-for-21 from the field. He has the name, but he shouldn't be in the same discussion as Derrick Rose.
Arizona 78, #9 Texas A&M 67
This surprised, the Aggies were playing so well. Say hello to freshman Jerryd Bayless who led the upset with 26 points. I like the Wildcats to win the Pac-10 with what I've seen so far. They'll get more consistency from Bayless and Budinger as the season goes on.
#7 Duke 79, Davidson 73
I'm still waiting for the "we shouldn't take Duke seriously" post from Shanoff that was applied to the Tar Heels close victory at Davidson earlier this year.
#16 Butler 65, Ohio State 46
The Bulldogs are really, really good. This was hardly their best effort and they washed away the Bucks easily. We'll be talking about a potentially undefeated season come mid-February.
Harvard 62, Michigan 51
Ha. Congrats to Tommy Amaker for sticking it to his former team.
Any other thoughts on the weekend and the highly competitive Hardwood Series?
