With the above post on Twitter, Hasheem Thabeet probably put quite the scare into quite a few UConn fans, who are obviously counting on him to lead them to victory in the Final 4 against the Michigan State Spartans.
Fortunately for Huskies fans everywhere, this was all a not-so-elaborate joke from the UConn center, as evidenced by his next "tweet", only a few minutes later.

WIth the growing trend of athletes breaking stories on Twitter, this is an amusing illustration of how people should be careful about what they see on sites like that. While you'll see guys like Lance Armstrong tweeting about his injury and Charlie Villanueva tweeting at halftime as well as giving updates about Jim Calhoun's injury status, it's important to remember that Twitter is... well, just that. Twitter.
It's alarming to see how fast sites like that are growing, despite the fact that you can only place so much stock into a 140-character tweet.
Still, kudos to Hasheem on what was actually a rather believable prank. If I had seen it first hand, I probably would have believed it. That is, of course, if it wasn't on April 1.
