Hazard believes Chelsea’s draw with West Brom is a positive result
Chelsea forward Eden Hazard insists the 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday is positive result for his side. A late goal from the head of Victor Anichebe restricted Chelsea to acquiring only a point from the game.
Winless against a relegation threatened West Bromwich Albion, many viewed Chelsea as a team that might not be able to secure the Premier League title despite being on top of the Premier League table.
Hazard is confident Chelsea will bring more good results to the table and a draw against the Baggies, who are the brink of dropping into the relegation zone, wasn’t a bad result at all. Hazard said that Chelsea managed to salvage a point from the game and that was a good result.
“It’s still a point, even if many people are disappointed,” Hazard told Chelsea’s official website. “I think this is a point that will count. There were some good things but others less so. You cannot win every game and it was important we didn’t lose. We’ll improve in the future and we will try to win the next game. We’ll see what happens when the other teams play.”
Hazard explained that West Brom’s resilient defending stopped Chelsea from breaking into the goal more than once. The Belgian star said that West Brom adopted an approach similar to that Sam Allardyce made West Ham United play against Chelsea in a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.
“It was a puzzling game. At 1-0, I thought we were managing the match well but we couldn’t get the second goal which would have given us protection and then the game became difficult,” Hazard said.
“I tried to play, we tried to play, but it was a very difficult game. It was a complicated whenever I had the ball because there were two or three opponents there. We could have got one or two more goals if we had been a little smarter with our final passes.”
Hazard further said that West Brom had planned their defensive tactics well enough to have answers to moves and advancements from Chelsea. Hazard also admitted that West Brom did well to push ahead towards the end of the game.
Hazard admitted that West Brom had the momentum on their side, especially with crowd giving them a lot of support. Chelsea are now scheduled for a trip to the Etihad Stadium for their FA Cup tie with Manchester City on this Saturday.
