I feel foolish for having dropped Darren McFadden down my rankings last year, so I'm glad he went about reminding all of us who the best player in college football is rather emphatically. 323 yards rushing did the trick. Back to first place he goes on my list.
(Tangent: Sign me up for tickets regardless of where the game is to watch the first professional meeting of McFadden and Adrian Peterson)
His team isn't in the national title picture, but I had that unwritten rule precisely for this reason. If you want to go the QB on the highest ranked team route than I suppose Dixon is your guy right now which is what the experts have done. Dixon is a fun talent, but Oregon has a lot of very good football players. Arkansas has 2 and when you factor his coach into the mix that put him at an even great disadvantage. It's all likely to change anyway in the next three weeks, just as it has over the weekend with these experts:
ESPN
1. Dennis Dixon 2. Pat White 3. Mike Hart 4. Matt Ryan 5. Darren McFadden
Heisman Pundit Straw Poll
1. Dennis Dixon 2. Tim Tebow 3. Darren McFadden 4. Matt Ryan 5. Chase Daniel
CBS Sports
1. Dennis Dixon 2. Tim Tebow 3. Darren McFadden 4. Matt Ryan 5. Chase Daniel
USA Today
1. Dennis Dixon 2. Darren McFadden 3. Tim Tebow 4. Mike Hart 5. Pat White
My List: 1. Darren McFadden - Just watch the video (and maybe not listen to the music) 2a. Tim Tebow, 2b. Dennis Dixon - Slightly different style but I really can't distinguish the two. If you switched their locations both teams would have the same records. 4. Matt Ryan - Had his opportunity on national television to keep his lead. 5. Andre' Woodson - Have we forgotten he has propelled Kentucky (!) into the conversation for a very decent bowl game?
