Heisman Watch Week 13: Tim Tebow Has 20-20 Record, But Chase Daniel Will Have Spotlight
READ MORE:

Tim Tebow can officially book his trip to New York City after becoming the first player in NCAA D1 history to score 20 touchdowns rushing AND passing. Considering the numerous dual-threat quarterbacks that have dominated college football, that's an amazing feat by the Gators sophomore. The only factor that's not working into his favor is the unwritten rule that this award belongs to an upperclassmen.

Dennis Dixon's unfortunate injury has likely taken him out of the race, which should open the door for Missouri's Chase Daniel. The Tigers QB threw for another 4 touchdowns Saturday in Manhattan, KS which brings his total to 33. Most importantly, Daniel will have the national spotlight Saturday night against #2 Kansas. Every Heisman voter worth their salt will be watching and a game winning performance could tip the scales to the upperclassmen.

Here's my Week 13 Rankings:

1. Tim Tebow - 3 losses hurt, but staggering numbers make up the difference
2. Chase Daniel - Saturday night is his audition
3. Dennis Dixon - Unfortunate, but missing the last two games eliminates him. Unfair?
4. Darren McFadden - Best pro, so that eliminates him from being able to win this award.
5. Pat White - Why so quiet on the White front?
How do your Heisman rankings look this week?

Daniel:  309-446 (69.3%),  3590 yards (8.0/att), 30 TD's, 9 INT's, 155.1 QB rating;  he has much better offensive weapons around him and his team has 1 loss; tougher schedule.

Reesing:  228-360 (63.3%), 2900 yards (8.1/att), 30 TD's, 4 INT's, 156.3 QB rating;  team is undefeated, schedule is easier, doesn't have near the offensive weapons around him.

Daniel is #2 on your rankings and Reesing doesn't even get a mention?  *sigh*

I can understand "Booger" Daniel being above Reesing, but I don't see how he could be #2 and not have Reesing even get a mention.

Well, since the Heisman is not really for the best player, they should wait to give to the MVP of the BCS Championship.

Reesing is too short to win it.

Tough one for Dixon. I'm not sure if playing on a knee he knew was busted was a very good idea, but it sure showed a lot of heart.
Dixon knew about the injury after the Arizona State game.  He decided to give it a go in the Arizona game.  Coach Mike Bellotti is partially to blame for not having backup Brady Leaf ready to go.

Yes, too short.  They should institute a rule that if the Heisman winner won't be a first round pick in the NFL Draft then they are eliminated.  Reesing ... too short ... gone.

Lets take a look back in time and see how many Heisman winners have totally sucked in the NFL.  Obviously if they were the "best" player in college they should at least be able to do more than ride the bench in NFL.  Many times they are products of systems, coaching, and some sweet teammates.

But since when is the NFL even remotely related to college football? Contrary to popular belief, it's not the NFL's minor leagues.

What is wrong with a Heisman winner sucking in the NFL? If a guy wins the MVP in the NFL and sucks the next year, should they take away his MVP? The Heisman has nothing whatsoever to do with the NFL, and never should.

How about you can't win the heisman if your team in High School never won the State Championship?

What about not even being able to be recruited unless you win the State Championship in high school?

Apparently sarcasm is not widely used on this website.  I was making a point that the Heisman is not about the best player.  Its about the perfect storm. I.E. upperclassman with great numbers on a highly ranked team.

kantwistaye - you're a Wisconsin fan

Now that we've stated the obvious we can move on.

Show me the stats on how many NFL MVP's have sucked beyond belief after winning.

BTW, I think Tebow is the best player.  So, if he wins they'll be right. And I know this because I watch the foosball on the tele.

I'm not saying it has happened. But it's basically the same premise as your little rants earlier.

Shaun Alexander in 2006 after he set the TD record and won the MVP in 2005. Kurt Warner in 2002 after winning it in 2001. Rich Gannon in 2003 after winning in 2002. Steve McNair in 2004 after winning it in 2003.

My "premise" is that a very large percentage of winners are not really MVPs of college football.  I used their poor showing in the NFL to support my flawless argument.  Their is no need to say sorry.  I forgive you.

Wow, you gave four examples ... astounding.

A partial listing:

1989 -  Andre Ware, 1990 - Ty Detmer, 1991 - Desmond Howard, 1992  - Gino Torretta, 1993 -  Charlie Ward, 1996 - Danny Wuerffel, 1999 - Ron Dayne, 2000 - Chris Weinke, 2003 - Jason White, 2004 - Matt Leinart, 2006 - Troy Smith

So why not just wait until after they have been in the NFL for a while and then give out the Heisman? That makes sense right? No of course not because the Heisman is an award given to the "best" COLLEGE player not an award given to the best future pro.

But it's not an "MVP" award. It goes to the "most outstanding player in college football".

Um... yeah it is.  Brett Favre might be MVP of the NFL this year, but he damn sure isn't the best player in the league.  Pretty big difference.

Actually, I'm a Patriots fan, and I think Brett is a more viable MVP candidate than either of the Patriots' big candidates.

mmkay ... The Packers D is the candidate if anyone on that team.

Yeah, Brady is definitely not a viable candidate since he is rewriting the record books.

I never said Brady wasn't a viable candidate. But anyone who's seen him play over the years knows that he's really not doing anything THAT unusual. The numbers are bigger, but that's only because he's not stuck with garbage WR's anymore. Randy Moss is as big a reason for their dominance as anyone. Take away Moss or Brady and replace them with an average player, and I think the Pats would be 9-1. Take away Favre, and the Pack would be lucky to be sniffing .500 right now.

AP has been unbelievable, but when he was out this week, who was the leading rusher in the NFL?

Chester Taylor.

When your backup comes in and does that, your "value" kinda takes a hit.

Well you did say they wasn't as viable.  Farve is having a great year for being an old man, but he won't win.

Charlie Ward chose the NBA over the NFL

Desmond Howard's Career Stats - 1597 yds rec. 7 TDs - BUST
Charlie Ward chose the NBA because no one wanted him in the NFL
Leinart has yet to prove how bad he will suck
