Just the other night I wrote about how the Pens were on fire. Last night, early in the first period, Sidney Crosby went down with a high ankle sprain. It's the same injury that has sidelined Marc-Andre Fleury for over a month now. Crosby is now said to be out indefinitely. There have been talks of trading for a winger from the Atlanta Thrashers. However, to get this trade, which now seems necessary to fill the huge void left by Crosby, the Pens will have to give up something big. Either Jordan Staal or Eric Christiansen will most likely go to Atlanta in this trade. Pick your poison folks. I for one do not want to see either of those men go. Yes, Staal has been in a sophomore slump, but he's one young man that IMO you can't afford to part ways with right now. The Pens need every player they have without Crosby out on the ice every night. Malkin, Staal, Christiansen, Sykora, Talbot, Kennedy, Hall, Orpik, Gonchar, Malone, Whitney, Sydor, Armstrong, Ruutu, Letang, Scuderi, and even Laraque have ALL got to step up to the plate with Crosby out of the lineup. If they can't, the Pens are going to crash and burn, and they'll crash fast. You've just lost the best player in the NHL, and without him, everyone must play better. There are no excuses. Sid is gone, but you still have your explosiveness, and your full potential has to shine through. He will hopefully be back in time for the playoffs, but in order for him to play through April, you have to play well enough now without him to assure he will have that chance when he's healthy enough to return to the ice. I know you can do it Pens, it's going to be a tough road ahead without Sid the Kid, but you're a team full of young talent with a few dashes of veteran leadership, and you're going to make it through this stretch successfully.
BK over and out, and Let's Go Pens!
