Mattias Ohlund hit Edmonton Oilers winger Erik Cole in the 2nd period of the Canucks' 4-2 win over the Oilers. Apparently, Sheldon Souray took issue with the hit, even though many consider it to have been a clean hit.
Souray and Ohlund dropped gloves, and it was over for Ohlund pretty quickly after that. He swung a couple times at Souray without landing anything solid, and then was dropped by a flawless right hand from Souray, which knocked out Ohlund after only that one hit.
Ohlund's chin is begging for mercy, and hoping that Ohlund stays out of any future scraps.
Hockey the only game where fighting is condoned.Another mixed message. No wonder our children are confused. It is wrong to fight at a basketball game, wrong in football, wrong in baseball, you get suspended or at least thrown out of the game..........but hockey? No and fans love it. I never understood it. And to top it all off, you can be arrested for assault after attacking a member of the other team. Where is the rationale?
Two consenting adults in a controlled environment deciding to put up the dukes. What's wrong with that? I'm not a hockey-fight apologist, but c'mon people. This was not some kind of mugging/thuggery, and hockey is not the Bolshoi Ballet. Simply two tough guys doing what they do.

No my friend when the object of the game is to score and defend..............it is very much mugging and thuggery. Tell that to a kid, a teen or an adult the next time they start fighting in a church or a wedding............that it is just two tough guys doing what they do.
Well the article and thus my comment was regarding the pros.Who cares what you teach the children if the children are watching the adults misbehave, break the law or have a different set of rules. Are you saying pee wees do not watch the pros? Whether the hit was legal was not my point A good hard hit is one thing an all out brawl is another....... Hockey allows both. My point was why do they allow fighting. I mean when everyone clears out and two players go at it while everyone, including the refs stand by and watch. It is called assault and there are laws against it. So why is it okay on a field of ice?

We aren't likely to agree on this topic but I applaud you for generating some lively debate/discussion. If more people could disagree without getting hacked off, fighting in hockey would be just that, rather than something that could possibly influence, or be linked to, violence in society.
Man you can not put everything on the parents unless the parents are the ONLY ONES giving input to the children.
In our world today, children get input from many sources, as grown ups it is our responsibility to make sure the message is constant.
Fighting is not sporting.... all children are taught that. Bad sports, complain and fight. That is not good sportsmanship. That is the lesson we teach, to be sporting. To be a good sport and a good cititzen.
What when we become an adult it is okay to act out? Boxing is a sport for those that like to hit,as is MMA, but those sports have rules and punishments as well for those who cannot control themselves and need to lash out.
Video games are games they involve cartoon characters. When people do it, it is real. How can you compare real life to a video game? You obviously do not have children. And do you realize your brother and sister are only two people so how does that make your point valid? Do you read the paper, see the news, society involves more than your sister and brother rootman. That is like saying there is no drug problem since no one in your house uses, yet there is a crack house next door. Did you know that cocaine was legal, it was a cure all for what ailed you,and it was forever. So now does that mean that since it has been a part of the game forever it should remain just because. That is not very bright!!!! Lastly if there is a law against it, how can you or anyone else think it is okay. Please make sense.I am not against hockey, just think allowing the fighting is not wise.
