It is high time that the fans that are living in Arizona that want to see their teams from where they relocated from wake up and get on track. Anybody that has watched hockey grow in cities over the years knows a town needs to give their teams a chance. Here in Arizona we are one of the biggest states for transplants across the country. Aside from 4 months of the summer the weather is amazing. You can find snow in winter a couple of hours drive from the capitol. We now have all the major sports in town. But wait, there is a problem. We have the big transplant issue.
I am putting out an official plea to all transplant fans of Hockey teams living in Arizona. Most of you probably agree with me on one thing. Hockey is the purest, fastest, and most awesome spectator sport in the world. With that said why has it dropped from the mainstream when we have a playoffs and finals like we had in 2009? We had some outstanding hits. We had some amazing skating. We had some great scoring and passing. We had it all. So why do we have problems in some towns with hockey you may ask? I am a transplant who grew up with the NY Islanders. I lived in Arizona for many years with only minor league hockey here. I had a massive void in my life from a sport that was my favorite to watch. Then enter Jets / Coyotes to our hot city. Fans coming to games at times to see their teams from other cities is prevalent at a Coyotes home game. With that I will set my plea and leave it at that.
Transplant fans, don't just use your love of the team you may have grown up to see a game or two when that team comes to town. Show your love for the sport by supporting the Coyotes and making sure they stay in Arizona. Go to other games. Root for them when it is not your original transplant team. This plays a large role in why the Coyotes have struggeled with attendance. Buffalo, Chicago, Detroit, Calgary.....all cities that have folks that moved to Arizona, please support the local home team to keep hockey in Arizona. You will get to see your teams in person every now and again. And you will also get to grow to love your home team to boot. I am still an Islander fan but I am a Coyote fan as well. I remember the feeling when the original Coyotes had a white out game against the Ducks. It was the most amazing experience even though the Yotes lost. I want to feel that again. All of you should give yourselves that chance too and stop being so stubborn. This team gives you a chance to have real NHL games played in Arizona. This team if given the chance other teams have had, can be really good and a playoff contender. Don't believe me look at what they were doing pre all star break this past year. If this team maintained that level of play through the second half they would have gotten through the first round at least of the playoffs.
Anyway, I do set out an official plea to all fans in Arizona to support your home team so Hockey can remain in Arizona. Show the suits and everyone that may want to see the sport leave that they are wrong and hockey can survive in the desert. I humbly ask this of all Hockey fans across Arizona.
