The beginning of the real bowl season is today [Wednesday Bowl Game open thread]

For me, Dec. 28 is sort of a milestone day for bowl games. I think it is because it is always the day the Holiday Bowl is played, and the Holiday Bowl to me is a real bowl. Most of the bowls played before Dec. 28 aren't really bowls, but rather means for the NCAA to suck tradition away from college football.

So here we are and here is your open thread for today's Military Bowl between Toledo and Air Force and today's Holiday Bowl Bowl between Cal and Texas. I already previewed both of those games (and the 33 other bowl games) in this story, but the cliff notes version of those previews is that it is a joke that Texas is ranked and it is hard not to root for a military academy in the Military Bowl. Also, I hate Kal Cal, but picked them to win (and also picked Air Force). 

Kickoff for the Military Bowl is at 4:30 p.m. ET and can it can be seen on ESPN (and ESPN3 if you are "at work"). The Holiday Bowl starts at 8 p.m. ET and can also be seen on ESPN or ESPN3. 

One interesting potentially-developing story is whether or not this could be Mack Brown's last game at the helm of the Texas football program. There is no concrete reason to believe it is, other than a lot of rumors across the interwebs. But as the old adage goes, where there is smoke, there is (often) fire. Brown did recently address the rumors, saying that he would be at Texas "for a long time."
