In an effort to clear cap space and assure Dwight Howard that they are all-in in terms of acquiring him and appeasing his needs, the Rockets rid themselves of two contracts that would have become guaranteed if not waived by today’s deadline.

Aaron Brooks and Carlos Delfino will now be looking for a job in other cities as the Rockets are solely focused on Blog Photo - Houston Rockets Waive Aaron Brooks and Carlos Delfinoone prize at the moment; their first dominant center since Hakeem the Dream. And wouldn’t you know, Olajuwan will be joining the recruiting process today.

Delfino’s contract was worth $3 million, all of which was non-guaranteed. The next of these moves would be to rid themselves of Thomas Robinson’s contract for next to nothing to make sure they have all the cap space needed for Dwight to earn every dollar of his max contract.

The one thing Houston cannot offer Dwight is a 5th year and $30 million more – that only the Lakers can offer. But from an outside perspective, Howard may leave it on the table because of the friction on the court he had playing alongside Kobe Bryant. Also, the head coach of the Lakers does not know how to fully utilize his skill-set -à Kevin McHale would be just the guy for Dwight to trust to run an offense through the post.

Houston has had this plan in effect for about 2 seasons. It has now come to fruition. They are first on the clock to present to Dwight. “StRay D12”
