A group composed of owner Les Alexander, coach Kevin McHale, GM Daryl Morey, Hakeem Olajuwon, James Harden and Chandler Parsons are all heading to Los Angeles to meet with Dwight early on July 1st, or 12:01am on Monday.

Before Howard will meet with the Los Angeles Lakers, he plans to also meet with the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks.

The one thing the Lakers have over the other teams is that they can sign Howard for $118 million over five years, but everyone else can only give him $88 million for four years.

However, it’s been thought that with California taxes, Howard might end up making roughly the same amount of money if he lives somewhere like Texas.

Phil Jackson will not be at Howard’s meeting with the Lakers, despite the fact that he has spoken favorably about the big man over the past two months and has even personally been in touch with him during the season.

Another edge the Lakers have is that they’ve been able to exclusively negotiate with Howard and his agent leading up to the July 1st FA date.
