Antonio Smith thinks the Patriots are still cheating

Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY SportsAfter yesterday's loss, Texans defensive lineman Antonio Smith directed some rather strong accusations towards Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.

Smith apparently believes that the Patriots are still involved in the videotaping scandal that they were punished for back in 2007, and is convinced that the Patriots were somehow cheating on Sunday.

Via NFL.com:
"I'm very suspicious. I just think it will be a big coincidence if that just happened by chance. I don't know for sure, but I just know it was something that we practiced this week. I'm saying it seemed like it. You can't never be for sure on anything because I ain't over there in their huddle, in their locker room, but it just felt like it."

Smith believed that the Patriots sniffed out some new wrinkles in the Texans' defense that they had never used before, so Smith's first instinct was that the Patriots MUST have been cheating.

When addressing Smith's allegations, it's important to first address the reality of it. Did the Patriots really feel like they needed to risk losing another draft pick (and potentially MUCH more) just to take on the 2-9 Houston Texans? Were they the only team that the Patriots potentially "cheated" against? If the Patriots were hypothetically willing to cheat against the Texans, one would assume that they must have also done the same against the Broncos to win the Sunday night thrilled a week ago, right?

The logistics of this make Smith's claims rather laughable. If the Patriots were running around recording practices and videotaping other teams' practice sessions, wouldn't they have been caught (again) by now?

This is another case of sour grapes. Smith is mad because the Texans had no answer whatsoever for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, so now he's trying to deflect blame and act like the only way the 9-3 Patriots could have possibly beaten the 2-10 Texans is if they cheated to win.

Nice try, Antonio. Maybe next time.
