How Gregg Popovich Is Getting Over the Finals
They say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And that is certainly the case with coach of the San Antonio Spurs, Gregg Popovich, and his daughter, Jill. After blowing Game 6 of the NBA Finals and subsequently losing Game 7, Popovich like many other Spurs fans, are still trying to get over the most emotionally gassing games of their lives.
Pop tells himself, “Shut the hell up. It's not all going your way.”
But sometimes talking to yourself isn’t enough. Sometimes you need someone else to speak into your life. And in Pop-like fashion, his daughter Jill spoke into her father’s life like no one else could.
“OK, Dad, let me get this straight: You won four championships, and you go to a fifth Finals. Other coaches lose all the time. But poor Greggy can't lose because he's special. Can you please get over yourself? End of story.”
After an intense gaze at his daughter, Pop laughed hysterically and said, “That started me on the path to recovery,”
