How Quickly Should UNT Recover?

As a lot of you know, North Texas football has been in the toilet since 2004. Daryll Dickey was fired from his head coaching job and was replaced by Todd Dodge in 2007. Dodge was 98-11 at Southlake Carrol High School, and seemed like the perfect choice for the job. He is praised as one of the most offensively gifted coaches in football. The question is, why hasn't UNT improved?

WHY HASN'T UNT IMPROVED?

One reason is the completely different offensive styles of the two coaches ran. Dickey ran a run heavy offense, and it worked well in the beginning. But Dodge runs a very pass-heavy offense that has brought him success in high school football. As football fans should know, this change can't really be a smooth one at first.

Also, UNT recently hired a new defensive coordinator, so the defense has been in a rough patch for a while. This is our downfall, I believe. The offense hasn't looked too bad, but the defense was still changing to new playbook. But, I think our defense will be prepared this season.

HOW WELL SHOULD UNT DO THIS SEASON?

One big setback would be the losses of Casey Fitzgerald and Giovanni Vizza, the main offensive producers. But the Mean Green have an excellent RB in Cam Montgomery, and Riley Dodge knows his father's playbook well. The Mean Green have solid linebackers in Tobe Nwigwe and Craig Robinson, but the rest of the defense is a mystery as to how they will perform. Same with the offensive line.

One thing I will say is to watch out for this team in the Sun Belt. I believe a 5 or 6 win performance this year would be about right.
