Another week, another prominent athlete in trouble with the law. Hopefully you're all as sick of this ongoing trend as I am. That's why I'd defend any severe action taken immediately in regard to Michael Vick.I understand the prudent route would be to wait until the court case is settled, likely taking place sometime next winter. That's fine, but it won't make any kind of statement in the sports world where one is desperately needed.
It's not Roger Goodell's job to play judge, but it's his job to clean up the image of our country's most popular sport. Either way, the early reports about evidence the Federal Grand Jury has on Vick are disturbing enough prior to any conviction. 40-plus dogs buried on his property, many hanged, drowned or slammed into the ground. Reprehensible. That's just part of the story, one doesn't really need to look much further when determining whether that's representative of a highly visible, marketable athlete. Michael Vick has already tarnished the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons organization. If Arthur Blank doesn't do what I think it right, and demand Vick take a leave of absense until this is settled, Roger Goodell should take care of it for him.
Time for a harsh statement to be made.
