Some people do pretty fun stuff for their birthdays, like go to Vegas, have insane parties, or eat their own weight in cake. Other people get tasered. Al Reyes is one of those other people.Reyes was celebrating his 38th birthday at the Hyde Park Cafe in Tampa Bay when he fell against a ceramic pot. And we all know ceramic pots do nothing but cause trouble. What transpired after that is high comedy.
Reyes got up thinking that another individual, Eduardo Mora, had pushed him into the pot and the two exchanged words. Mora then punched Reyes in the face with his fist.
The Hyde Park Cafe bouncers grabbed Mora at which time Reyes, who appeared to be intoxicated, began to spit blood on the people in the area and began to swing his arms about. The bouncers attempted to control the 6'1" 240 LB pitcher but could not, and Reyes began pushing them.
Tampa Police Officer S. Barber, who was working extra-duty at the establishment, approached and yelled "Stop Police!" When Reyes continued spitting blood and thrashing about, Officer Barber advised Reyes that he was going to deploy his taser.
Shortly thereafter, he did exactly that, knocking Reyes to the ground. However, Reyes began to get up, ignoring commands to stay down. When the taser was deployed a second time, Reyes gave in. Reyes was arrested and charged with Affray and released on his own recognizance.
Now that's a great birthday party. Spewing blood and getting tasered multiple times. And props to Reyes for having to get tasered twice. Just so you know, Mora was also charged with assault. The ceramic pot, however, got off scot-free.
Figures, ceramic pots have all the connections.
