The answer to that is to watch one of the more entertaining ball games that the Nationals have had at their new park. This game featured a little bit of everything. A pitchers duel, extra innings, a come back, and a pitcher with a bloody nose. What else could you want?
Jair Jurrgens and Shawn Hill managed to hold the offenses to a run a piece in the 6th and then turned it over to the 'pens. The game then went another 5 innings with nothing being scored although there were opportunities. At one point the Nats had the bases loaded with one out but Felipe Lopez hit into my favorite double play (1-2-3) and snuffed another rally. The Braves managed a run in the top of the 12th and, at this point, I was just hoping for a quick 3 outs in the bottom of the inning so that I could go home.
The Nats would not oblige and instead load the bases with none down. This is where the bloody nose nightmare occurs. Reliever Buddy Carlyle delayed the game while he dealt with the bottom half of the crimson mask. After he got that stopped he gave up the game winning single to Felipe Lopez who redeemed himself for the aforementioned 1-2-3.
12 innings. 3 hours, 17 minutes. A metro ride and a drive and it was all worth it...
Next in the Buccos for four. I will be on the scene for Saturday and Sunday.
