I'm a little late with this because it escaped my mind, but I couldn't believe the audacity of Dodgers' Outfielder Matt Kemp when he participated in the Home Run Derby Monday. This guy hasn't played since May 30th, but somehow thought it was a good idea to compete in the Derby???? This may have been one of the more selfish acts I can remember.I would be livid if I were the Dodgers organization. I'm sure they were happy he only registered one home run and was out of the competition early, but they still had to be shaking their heads watching him on the field. Could you imagine if he re-aggravated his injury and was lost for considerable time to start the 2nd half?
Think about the great start the Dodgers got off to. They were 32-18 on May 30th. They now sit at 47-40 and have a half game lead over the Giants. I don't want to question Matt Kemp's toughness to miss so much time, but I do question his thought process by competing in the HR Derby. Even Josh Hamilton decided to skip the derby due to his battle with injuries.
I don't know how the Dodgers will finish the season, but if Kemp misses any significant time in the 2nd half, we can all think about his selfish act to compete in the HR derby. Thumbs down Matt Kemp!
