I Miss You DRose

Mandatory Credit: Dennis Wierzbicki-US PRESSWIREI do not like seeing Derrick Rose in street clothes. I do not like Derrick Rose being a spectator. Maybe a spectator at a Bears game would work, but watching DRose at a game in street clothes at the United Center, while the Bulls are playing is painful. I thought watching the Bulls minus DRose would be OK. I thought I could handle it. I must admit I am not doing very well.

It was like the days after Michael Jordan left the Bulls-it should still be fun to watch. But its not. No Michael Jordan, not much fun. No DRose, not so great right now. I know the guys are playing hard, doing their best. But it is DRose who could keep the Bulls in a game when they can't find the basket. Its DRose who will make the amazing assist or ridiculous steal-DRose who these Bulls look to for the out of this worldliness thrill shot that will turn momentum around.

What are we looking at these days? A 5-4 record, currently 21st in the NBA in points per game, with no savior. The Bulls connecting one night, and getting blown out by the Clippers the next. Turning on to watch the game, I am never too sure which Bulls team is going to show up. With DRose, it didn't completely matter, because you know if he is in the game, the Bulls are ALWAYS in it. Always have a chance.

Now, I am showing my age by acknowledging I have been a Bulls fan since the days of Reggie Theus and Artis Gilmore. When winning as a Chicago Bull was a rarity, and a place in the playoffs was almost unheard of.  But is was OK, because there were no expectations. The difference now, as the current team is only 1 1/2 games behind the leader in the Central division, is our expectations have changed. We have all seen the greatness of DRose and how he can change the game in an instant with his magic on the floor. We have witnessed winning as commonplace and losing as the rarity. We have been spoiled-first by MJ and now by DRose.

The difference here is the uncertainty with DRose. When is he coming back? Will he ever return to the DRose we remember? Will our Bulls ever achieve the level of greatness we saw the last few years? Or are we going to have to watch the other Eastern division giants stomp all over these Bulls on their way to more championships. I'm not sure I can stomach that.

Get well DRose. I'm not sure how much more of a season like this I can take.
