In a huge blow to the horse racing world, trainer Doug O'Neill has announced that Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I'll Have Another won't be running the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.I'll Have Another, who would have been going after the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978, has been scratched and won't run, as reported on the Dan Patrick show.
This is quite unfortunate to both NBC and the world of horse racing, since it drastically decreases interest in Saturday's race.
Instead of potentially outstanding ratings and a huge interest boost while I'll Have Another seeks history, they're now left without the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, and also missing another one of the favorites, Bodemeister.
It looks like it's time for people to go back to the real world, in which no one actually cares about horse racing.
While some people pretend to care, the fact is that horse racing is hardly even acknowledged outside the 3 Triple Crown races, and no one really knows what they're talking about when they discuss the races.
Perhaps this is actually a blessing in disguise. Hopefully, ESPN will ignore the irrelevance that this race has become, and focuses on something more important.
Like... well, anything.

LOL so like I said they put you out to pasture a long time ago... OTB is a great thing if you cannot be live. See, I never said you had not won or raced, what I was saying is I am sure you had never won the money that he had by racing.

Stop caring about horse racing???? I do not know to many people who watch the races unless they like horse racing. It is not like fans of MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA who states the season means nothing and I only watch the post season.

You also cannot run like I'll have another or was a winner like him... so you have been put to pasture long time ago.

Agreed. They were never going to take a chance with a horse like that. And I really believe he had the stuff to win the Belmont, but who knows. I'll still be watching tomorrow though.

Hate it. Been a horse racing fan all my life. Really is a blow to the sport. Fortunately the move may save the animals life.

Yes, by all means, now ESPN can focus on important things like the NBA draft, sports bloopers, and hiring more screaming illiterates. Dislike horse racing all you like, but whatever you do don't make ESPN your go-to source for so-called "important" sports stories.
