Indianapolis Colts Defense, Peyton Manning Roll Over New Orleans Saints and Drew Brees
Look at that, the Indianapolis Colts postseason defense is still around.

There's a good reason Indianapolis won the Super Bowl last year and all facets of their game were on display tonight.  Regardless of your prediction for tonight's game, I think everyone who picked the Colts to win had to be a little surprised. A 41-10 Indianapolis win was not in the cards for any pundit.

First their defense. Remember Peter King's rankings? Dwight Freeney wasn't high enough which is what I said back then. Tonight, as most weeks show, he can ruin an offense all by himself. Spurred on by his pressure, Drew Brees was able to accomplish very little, 28-41, 192 yards and 2 INT. That wasn't all due to Freeney, but we're going to credit him for a great deal. As a whole, the Colts defense was stellar. Despite how bad they looked, I caution you not to downgrade the Saints that much. That's the best offense in the NFC and they'll roll up yards all season. Indy's D played that well.

Running game. Peyton Manning mentioned it often in his post game press conference, but Joseph Addai will be a major key to their success. He'll be a top 3 fantasy running back and got off to a great start tonight. 23 carries for 117 yards and a TD.

Passing attack
is the same as always. Beautiful football. Whether you like the Colts or not, you have to recognize that fact.

The only other note that needs to be added, Jason David, you are bad my friend.

I predicted the Colts for 11 wins; time to chance that to 13. The defense I thought wouldn't gel until the second half looks sharp on Day 1. Can't wait for Sunday.

Week 6 is gonna be tough for my fantasy team, but for now it's nice having Addai, Harrison and Wayne. HOWEVER, it was scary seeing my first round pick (Addai) shaken up on the first play of the season.

If that defense sticks around forget everything the Pats did this off-season, its going to be a repeat.

I'd always been overly protective of the bye weeks ... but I've realized it really doesn't matter. If you have those guys, you're going to win enough weeks that it doesn't matter.

I drafted Addai third in a fantasy league and was laughed at. We'll see, that was just one week and ripe for overreaction, but I feel good about him topping any year Edge had in Indy.

I am not sure about your observation of the Saints being the best offense.  Now I will grant that the Saints biggest problem aside from turnovers (three I believe) was an inability to play defense.  Their corners looked lost and seemed to forget the fundamentals of covering someone; i.e.: Staying close to the WR.

The offense has problems though.  There really isn't a good complimentary Receiver on the opposite side of Colston.  I am also not absolutely certain that Colston is a viable number one.  I like Colston, thought he should be Offensive ROY last year, and I still think he was more deserving, but he isn't at a level to be the number one yet.  Devery Henderson, I think, really is nothing more than a 3 WR.

We saw a little of Reggie Bush and Deuce McCallister but I am not sure about the rotation, I don't think either of them have enough time to get into a groove.  Neither McCallister nor Bush ran for more than 37 yards, both averaging 3 and 4 yards a carry but that average is misleading.  Also while their may have only been one sack on Drew Brees there were an awful lot of hurries which is why there were two interceptions.  So I am going to say the offensive line is suspect.   So I think the offensive line is suspect.

Now maybe this was just a bad game, God knows they happen, but you don't tend to expect a team meltdown in the first game of the season.  A loss is one thing, and I would have understood anyone who stood by them if the score was even just 21 to 41, but the game wasn't even that close.  It was, last year, known that the Saints defense was suspect.  Well it's not a suspect anymore it's been convicted and thrown to prison.  The Defense was horrible.  The problem now is it was always thought that the offense could carry this team when the defense failed, and now I am not so sure.

Take this with a grain of salt though, it's only the first game of the season.  There are plenty more games to be played.

AND Anthony Gonzalez didn't even factor into the offense. That is frightening.

Oh, Marlin Jackson > Jason David

You are a Cowboys fan, so I'm not surprised by your dismissal of the Saints offense. No doubt the Cowboys have a good O and I'm sure we'll all overreact Sunday night when they pick apart a weak Giants D.

All I'm saying is that the Saints were the Best O last year (fact based on yardage) and still content they'll do the same this season. Which means the NFC is in big trouble.

Hell of a performance tonight from the Colts D.

Yeah, well this isn't last year's Saints is it?  By the way, I picked the Saints to win tonight, so I was drinking the same cool aid as everyone else.  I wouldn't have doubted them had they put up a better fight, but they looked dismal.  The Saints never scored an offensive touchdown the entire game.  I had a feeling when they gave up Joe Horn they would be missing something, only time will tell.

By the way, I am not rooting against the Saints until they play my team.  If you remember, Peyton  was the assistant coach in Dallas for a few years.  I have nothing against the Saints.

Well, it actually is the same Saints as last year. That's what's so impressive about what the Colts did tonight.

They'll be fine. There's always overreaction after one game, and justifiably so, but I still hold all my predictions about Drew Brees having a record setting year.

I think I would have felt better about this Saints team if that loss came in the middle of the season and not at the very beginning.  Still you are probably right, the offense will improve.  I still see them having many problems winning the game if they don't shore up the CB position.

And I really am looking forward to Sunday night.  Especially with Brandon Jacobs talking trash.

If they can play D that well all year, than I smell a repeat.

Considering he was held on almost every play (Some pretty blatant) Freeney did look good.  I really liked this Freddie Keiaho kid, maybe their linebackers aren't as bad I as thought, because he looked great.  Of course, hopefully Bob Sanders stays healthy, and that's a lot to ask from them.

Wow, 1 TD by the Saints, and it was by the defense!  And the guy who got destroyed later in the game.  Good to see Jason David hasn't changed since leaving Indy.  You can have him New Orleans.

And CF, the Saints don't have the NFC's best offense, even before this game that belonged to the St. Loiuis Rams.

hehehehehe....  I told you guys so-- the D is looking pretty good this year!  I saw signs before the preseason ended that the Colts were pretty happy with their linebacker corps, and I knew the secondary was gonna be good to go, even after losing Harper and David.

The "dagger" that killed the Saints defensively is almost a page from the storyline of the Colts' D last year-- they couldn't stop the run-- which led to the Saints abandoning the "Cover 2" defense, leaving Marvin and Reggie single covered.... When that happens against the Colts, game over.

Speaking of Payton, he's the reason why I wouldn't downgrade the Saints offense that much this year based on last night. It seems he's got a knack for working with what he's got and getting his skill players to step up their game. The Colts D played out of their minds. Once the Saints get into a groove again, they'll be putting up 30 points a game again.

I think Rams, Dallas, Saints (in no particular order, right now) for NFC's best offense. I think Nate raised some valid q's about NO's offense, I'm not sure how healthy STL's receiver corps is going to be (their top 3 guys seem to have concerns), and we'll see how Romo does this year.

While I picked Indy to win, I was highly surprised to see the defense play so well out of the gate!!  I hope they can keep it up--already tired of hearing that the Pats will be back to the Super Bowl before anyone's played yet!!

It was a good solid old fashioned azz whipping there is no doubt about it. I think the saints offense will surely play better and it was just one game , but i think there are definately some O-line questions that should be looked at and the offense overall seemed a bit tight as did the play calling. Now on the defensive side of the ball it was pretty ugly , granted this was against the colts offense which makes alot of teams look bad. But at the same time there was some real issue's with technique and plain and simple fundamentals, getting beat by great recievers making great moves is one thing but that wasnt even the case here.  The Saints D was beat on some really simple routes and made for some very easy throws for mr. manning.  Again this is just one game so saints fans shouldnt go off the deep end here , but without a doubt that saints defensive team have some serious questions to answer going into week 2. Plus have to give credit to a colts team that played one hell of a game and they caused alot of those saint problems !

The defense was great for the opening game.Brees almost set the lowest yards per reception record!( 6.85 yards per completion). The offense looked like it took up where it left off last year. Manning, Wayne, Harrison, Clark and Adai produced as they usually do.

For Manning , it was just TCB as usual.  Please stay healthy Bob Sanders and Joseph Adai! Sanders is the spark plug for the defense. And Adai has no experienced backup.

That was a scary hit on Adai just a  few seconds into the game. But, 31-0 in the second half was ridiculous. I don't enjoy seeing a team being embarrassed. And it was Archie's team.  I know he felt good for Peyton. But, also bad for the Saints.

Idk whether Drew Brees played bad or the Colts played good D because I saw a lot of absolute horrible throws by Drew.  Although I did and still do think that the saints are gunna be a really good team by the end of this year, but its still only week one.
