How important is home-field advantage in the world of soccer? The UEFA Euro 2012 Tournament kicked off last week, and so far the host nations are doing pretty well. Poland and Ukraine and sharing hosting duties this year, and the Polish opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw with Greece (thanks in large part to the save of a penalty kick by Pyzemyslaw Tyton).
Then today, in Ukraine's first game of the tournament, they downed a very solid Swedish squad 2-1.
The folks at Silver Oak looked into home-field patterns in the Euro Cup and the World Cup over the years.
