Initial NCAA Tournament Bracket Thoughts: Butler a 7, and Oregon a 9?
Truth is not much of the seeding and matchup matters as much as we'll discuss over the next three days, but still, that's the joy of the Selection Show. You've still got to win 6 games.

- Indiana as an 8-seed? I realize they've struggled a little down the stretch but that's a little harsh to them ... and UNC. Hell of a second round matchup. Gordon could get hot and DJ White could limit Hansbrough in the post. That's how you beat the Tar Heels.

- What's up with all the mid-majors playing each other? Don't like that at all. On one hand, it assures more "Cinderellas" into the Second Round and does give them a greater chance to be well represented in the Sweet 16, but I'd still prefer the big vs mid pairing.

- The NCAA committee always says aren't concerned with the "hype" factor for pairing first round. Uh huh. Best games with many storylines to go with:
Butler vs. S-Alabama
Georgetown vs UMBC (neighborhood battle)
USC vs Kansas State. Hello, freshman.
Gonzaga vs Davidson. New Cindy vs Old.
Stanford vs Cornell. West brains vs East brains.

- How is Oregon a 9-seed? I was surprised they got in, but if you compare to some others left out they did have solid wins. Just a little stunned they are ahead of teams like Davidson and Arizona to name a few.

- Want to know why Kent St is seeded to highlight? Meet the NCAA Selection Committee complete with their Director of Athletics. Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State! Sorry, had to.

- Shocked, SHOCKED that Billy Packer's first question to the Committee Chair, Thomas O'Connor, was questioning the lack of ACC teams.

- 12-5 Upset. How about all of them? I'll be going with Villanova for sure.

- Second round matchups I'd most like to see:
Butler vs Tennessee. Talk about a style of play difference.

North Carolina vs Indiana. As we've discussed above, these are two teams with Top 10 talent meeting in Round 2. What?

Michigan State vs Pittsburgh. For obvious reason, and because it'll be a hell of a slugfest with refs letting the play on the court decide it, instead of the foul line.

West Virginia/Arizona winner vs Duke. Sniff, sniff ...
Not much else to complain about. Time to fill this thing out. Make sure to enter our Bracket Contest.

As far as the 5-12 matchups go...scaring myself, I have all 5's advancing.

I'll most likely be taking a hit there, but I just think Clemson has built up a lot of momentum with their ACC run, Mich. St. is too strong for Temple (that is, if 4 more guys don't foul out), I'm a big fan of Drake, and with the closest one for me being George Mason vs. Notre Dame -- I give the Irish an edge.

And lets just hope the Billy Packer bashing doesn't come any moment too soon.

I am not worried about DJ because I would imagine that Tyler gets him in foul trouble. I think Ginyard can contain Gordon from exploding to the basket, just wondering if Ellington, or Green, or who ever will be guarding Gordon when Ginyard is out, can stop Gordon from taking over the game and allowing him to get into rhythm. Also can't see Arkansas beating Indiana so the matchup seems destined.

5-12 matchups, I like the 5 seeds in all of them. Problem is that a 12 always upsets a 5 so maybe Notre Dame will lose to George Mason because the game isn't in Joyce Center. I can't imagine any of the other 5 seeds possibly losing.

Arizona has been dreadful without Lute. It's a travesty their in. Oregon is a little high at #9, but Arizona St not in? Too bad. The Sun Devils were jobbed by the refs in the Pac-10 quarterfinals too. Don't worry CF. Oregon won't last long enough even to taste year-old chili (hmm?).

Indiana being an 8 is ridiculous.  Butler as a 7 is even worse.  How the heck is Miami a 7 (same as Butler, better than Indiana... ridiculous).  How is Wisconsin the worst ranked 3 seed and Georgetown the highest ranked 2?  Sure G'Town looked good for 2 games and then they reminded us why they've been so disappoiting against Pitt.

I'm looking forward to potentially Indiana vs UNC, Tennessee vs Butler, Duke's 2nd round matchup (how does Duke defend Jarryd Bayless/Chase Budinger or Joe Alexander?), and maybe Wisconsin's 2nd round matchup.

What also has bothered me is that why is the West so easy compared to the other three? East has 3 top teams with a crazy amount of sleepers, South may be the hardest region when you have a teams like Michigan State at 5, Texas at 2 and Stanford 3, Midwest has tough mid seeded teams like USC, Clemson, and Davidson. The South on the other hand is horrible. The only competitors for the South region that I see are UCLA, Drake, UConn, and Xaiver. If you compare that to let's say the Midwest which I see as the third hardest bracket, Kansas, Clemson, Vandy, USC, Wisconsin, and G'Town all have a genuine shot.

I was troubled by the 7/10 matchups of mid majors (Gonzaga-Davidson and Butler-South Alabama).  Butler as a 7 bugged me, as did Oregon being a 9

I will be attending the Washington DC "pod" and was kinda bummed by their games.  At least we'll have Duke in DC, and i'm hoping Baylor pulls the upset.  My wife's attending with me and her school, George Mson is playing Thursday and we're goin to miss it...

How about a Baylor v. Georgia round of 32 match up? The possibility of either of teams making it the Sweet Sixteen is amazing. Although I think I may have both of them lose in the first round.

Cal State Fullerton off to Omaha? Wait this sound more like the College World Series than the NCAA Basketball tournament.

Sure the Badgers should wax us, but it feels good to know that the Titans have made it back after 30 years!

I think Butler and Davidson got jobbed!  Will we ever have a day where the "Mid Major" is on equal footing with the "BCS"?
