Inter Milan keen on signing Vidic after Man Utd exit
A mass exodus is set for Manchester United this summer with the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra leaving Old Trafford forever. Vidic has confirmed this will be his last year with Manchester United. The Serbian defender has revealed that he is not seeking a new contract from Manchester United and that he will let his current one run down till it ends in the summers.
Many top-notch European clubs have been circling over Vidic, waiting for him to leave Old Trafford. Inter Milan are leading the race to acquire Vidic’s services. Vidic has already confirmed that he will not be joining another Premier League club, therefore clubs from Italy and Spain are on top of the waiting list.
Vidic has been out of Manchester United’s first team for nearly two years now. Injuries and poor form have kept the Serbia international on the bench for most of the past year. With six months remaining on his contract and little field time being promised at Manchester United, Vidic feels the time is right to seek new challenges.
Manchester United manager David Moyes is keen on giving Vidic a new contract, but no progress on the issue can be reported. In a recent interview to Manchester United’s official website, the 32-year-old confirmed his intentions about leaving Manchester United at the end of the season.
The list of clubs interested in signing Vidic also includes Serie A giants Napoli and Juventus. However, Vidic’s agent Silvano Martina claims Inter Milan was the first club that approached with desire to sign in the Serb defender.
“The Nerazzurri have shown an interest in my client, at least for now,” Martina told InterLive it.
Upon arriving at the Manchester United helm, Moyes considered Vidic to be the “best defender I have ever worked with”. Injuries have ruined the latter stage of the center back’s career and it doesn’t appear that Vidic will be making a comeback from them this year.
Moyes has shown no intentions of reintroducing him into the first team, especially when Johnny Evans has replaced him beautifully, forming a good partnership with Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.
Vidic could be joined by Evra and Rio Ferdinand on the walk out of Old Trafford. Evra has already hinted towards an exit during the summer transfer window. The left-back wants to return home to join his home club Monaco, although Paris Saint-Germain are ready to pay top price for his services.
Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand, who has been Vidic’s defensive pair for many years, has confirmed he is no state to continue playing football. The center back is expected to retire from football and make only a few appearances before the end of the season. Vidic on the other hand is ready for more action. The 32-year-old will be available for Manchester United’s game against Fulham this Sunday, having served a three-match ban for picking up a red card in the 3-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
