Iowa State starting running back Shontrelle Johnson will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee and miss the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Tulsa, reports Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports.Blog Photo - Iowa State Football: Shontrelle Johnson to Miss Bowl Game

Johnson, a junior, injured his right knee during practice on Saturday and is expected to have the operation in January.

In the Cyclones’ 38-23 win over Tulsa in the season opener, Johnson took 18 carries for 120 yards and found the end zone once. His production fell off drastically in the weeks following, averaging just 34.9 yards per carry over the last 11 games, but his presence will still surely be missed.

Junior tailback James White – who received just 26 less carries than Johnson all season – will get the nod in the backfield, while we could see a little bit of Jeff Woody as well.

Tulsa is projected to beat Iowa State 25-22 in my FanIQ bowl predictions. The game is set to kickoff Monday, December 31 at 2:30 CST.
