Iowa State vs. Connecticut [Game info and open thread]
About Iowa State:
In a conference where Kansas, Missouri, and Baylor garnered most of the national attention, the Cyclones (22-10) quietly had a great season, finishing in a tie for third place in the Big 12. In fact, it wouldn't be a particularly difficult argument to say the Cyclones had as good a year as the Bears, who they split with in two meetings. Iowa State's best win came over Kansas at the end of January. The Cyclones are led by do-everything forward Royce White, who basically leads Iowa State in every major statistical category (13.1 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 blocks per game are all best on the team).
The defending National Champion Huskies had to rally at the end of the season just to make the NCAA Tournament to have a shot at repeating. It has been a tough year for UConn, especially with the health problems facing legendary coach Jim Calhoun, who will be on the sidelines for the NCAA Tournament. On the court, the Huskies finished just 8-10 in the Big East, but were saved by their very difficult non-conference schedule and solid performance in the Big East Tournament. Jeremy Lamb and Shabazz Napier are the Huskies' leaders, and they are also the team's top two scorers at 17.7 and 12.7 points per game respectively.
