That was the report yesterday from ESPN's Chris Mortensen. It should be noted that I trust Mort's NFL scoops lately as much as my girlfriends. Naturally, Oakland is denying these reports.
Whether it's true that Al Davis would actually ask Lane Kiffin to resign, a very distinct possibility, is beside the point. The reality is that the Oakland will not return to their winning ways until Davis moves on. He's said he won't retire until they win another Super Bowl -- and/or 6 feet below. No Raiders fan should actually be rooting for the latter, but that's what it's going to take.
The way the organization has been run over the last 6 years is a joke. It wasn't that long ago that Jon Gruden appeared to be leading the Raiders towards a Super Bowl, but after the infamous 'tuck rule' loss to the Patriots, Davis mysteriously allowed Coach Chuckie to leave and take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers job in exchange for some garbage. Gruden would go on to beat the Raiders in the following Super Bowl and Oakland hasn't seen a winning season since which can be directly related to the hiring of 4 different coaches in 6 years.
4 different coaches in 6 years. That screams of an ownership that has absolutely zero clue what their doing and no real vision for the future. Oddly, Davis has been credited for pushing the league forward in many areas, particularly in breaking down racial barriers, but he's lost the ability to live up to his most famous phrase - Just win, baby.
Just move on, Al
