Jaguars latest cats with a new look

The 2012 season is officially over, which means we'll be seeing a lot more meaningless football news, at least until the draft in April.

The Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled their new logo today, which has more obvious differences than the last couple of logo changes for their feline NFL brethren.

They've also made changes to their lettering, which also took on a sharper appearance:

In 2009, Detroit went through a logo change of their own. Well...sort of.

Carolina underwent a change last season too:

Jacksonville finished the 2012 season 2-14. Apparently, the new logo isn't the only change they will be making in order to draw fans; they're improving the seats and scoreboards at EverBank Field too. I've been to EverBank; I didn't notice a problem with the seats or the scoreboard, but I guess every little bit helps. They'll also be looking to pack the stadium by...well...getting better. To start with that process, they hired Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley to replace Mike Mularkey and David Caldwell to replace GM Gene Smith.

After their respective logo makeovers the Lions improved from 0-16 to 2-14, and the Panthers improved from 6-10 to 7-9. However, the Seahawks made subtle changes to their logo and major changes to their uniforms (and roster) and went from 7-9 in 2011 to 11-5 in 2012. Rumor has it the Jags will be making some changes to their unis as well (to be unveiled in April), and I have no doubt we'll see some roster improvements.

Obviously the Jags wanted to go with a new angular, fiercer look. Did they succeed?

It reminds me less of Cheetara now, but I don't know if that's an improvement. I like the new lettering a lot.

Oh, I hope they keep the coloring of their helmets. Those were cool last year - at first I thought they were black, but when the light would hit them just right they had a teal hue to them. Very cool.

I definitely think they all look better than the old ones too. Detroit and Carolina were more subtle but I really like Jacksonville's. My daughter, who thinks she's part Jags fan, says it's a big improvement. "It looks less goofy," according to her.
