Jacoby Ford to undergo foot surgery
Serious concern originally arose, well, as soon as Ford got hurt. Ford is a notoriously slow healer and has been injury prone since the beginning of last season. Also, his injury was described as the same ailment that held Ford out for six games last year.
A big part of former head coach Hue Jackson's gameplan last season, Ford got hurt almost immediately in the Raiders' season opener against the Broncos. He returned to a limited role in Week 4, only to get hurt again in Week 9 and miss six more games.
Super serious concern arose when Ford wasn't even present at the Raiders' Week 1 game against the Chargers. It was soon after reported that Ford would be undergoing foot surgery, and there is not yet a timetable set on his return.
This is a painful shot for the Raiders, who struggled with both kick returns and downfield passing in the opener. Ford is a huge asset in both of those aspects of the game, and the Raiders will have to look elsewhere to improve in those areas.
Ford has two 101 yard kick returns and four kick return touchdowns in 24 career games.
Despite Denarius Moore's likely return to action in Week 2, undrafted rookie Rod Streater will maintain a significant role in Oakland's offense until Ford returns. With four catches and a touchdown in the opener, Streater could be looked at in deep PPR fantasy leagues.
