At this point, it's not a matter of if, but when. All signs seem to point towards that 'when' being on Saturday afternoon.

With Penn State scheduled to hold a press conference at 4:15 PM ET, there is no longer any doubt that it will be to officially declare Franklin its new head coach. And for Vandy fans, this exhausting process should finally reach its conclusion.

Everyone understands that this is a business. It's no longer that easy for coaching contracts to be approved at the drop of a hat.

But, Franklin's hiring at Penn State has been quite the lengthy ordeal. Many reports seem to suggest that this has been a done deal since early in the week when Franklin and officials from the university agreed in principal for him to become the next head coach. As we all know though, nothing is official until things are signed on the dotted line.

With the Penn State board scheduled to meet on Saturday to approve Franklin's seemingly $4.5 million contract, the backing from the board is the only thing stopping this from happening. And trust me, the contact will be approved at this stage.

Of course, with conflicting reports the past couple of days concerning Franklin's decision, confusion has reigned supreme in all of this. The confusion certainly hasn't benefited the Commodores, who will undoubtedly be getting the short end of the stick in this situation.

However, again, this is a business. Franklin has accomplished more than anyone could have ever imagined at Vanderbilt, and he now gets to approach a new challenge in helping lead Penn State back to a national championship level.

And that's a much easier level to reach at Penn State than it is at Vanderbilt.

The way all of this has played out will probably leave a bad taste in the mouth of a certain contingent of Vandy fans. Honestly, that's to be understood. Had the process gone quicker, the university could already be searching for its new head coach and trying to maintain an outstanding recruiting class.

That search should begin tomorrow though with Franklin seemingly heading to Happy Valley.

Vandy got the hire right when it hired Franklin a few years ago, and fans can only hope that they find a similar catch this time around.
