15. Cam Newton, Panthers
14. Matthew Stafford, Lions
13. Matt Schaub, Texans
12. Michael Vick, Eagles
11. Matt Ryan, Falcons
Thoughts: This will probably be the last time you see Cam Newton outside of the top 10 on anyone’s list. The kid is going to be a star. He’s probably going to be a top 5 QB for a long time.
Putting Matt Ryan at number 11 is the perfect spot for him. He’s an excellent talent but falls just short of being a truly elite QB. Ryan is good, but not a threat to win a title by any means. But he is young and only getting better, so maybe this is the year Matty Ice breaks through.
10. Tony Romo, Cowboys
9. Joe Flacco, Ravens
8. Jay Cutler, Bears
7. Philip Rivers, Chargers
6. Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers
Thoughts: These QB’s seemed to be ranked appropriately and I don’t have much of a thought about them, but my wife was furious that Jay Cutler would be ranked number 8. It had nothing to do with the fact that she’s been a life long Packers fan but more with the fact that Culter married Kristen Cavallari the mortal enemy of Lauren Conrad of the Hills. Women have the best sports logic in the world.
5. Eli Manning, Giants
4. Peyton Manning, Broncos
Thoughts: I think Jaws is showing a lot of faith in Peyton Manning and this ranking might be based on reputation alone. Even if Peyton comes into the season 100 percent it still might take him the majority of the year to get accustomed to being an NFL QB again. I think at this point a number 10 ranking is probably more appropriate.
This ranking is about right for Eli. I would have put him at number 4, but that’s just nitpicking. Most analysts laughed last year when Eli said he was an elite quarterback and in Tom Brady’s league. But after last years playoff run I doubt anyone doubts Eli now. On any given day the top 6 quarterbacks on Jaw’s list can play like the best QB in the league.
3. Tom Brady, Patriots
2. Drew Brees, Saints
1. Aaron Rodgers Packers
Thoughts: As great as Brady and Brees were last year, there should be no question who is the best QB in the league at the moment. Rodgers put up a regular season for the ages last year, and won his first MVP in the process. That does not mean that either Brady or Brees cannot overtake him this upcoming season. Both QB’s are talented enough to be called the best in the league.
Whether are not you agree or disagree with Jaw’s list, there is one thing that is certain: football season is almost here- and I couldn’t be more grateful.
