Jay Cutler Likely To Be A Washington Redskin

We Might As Well Just Call This Now: Jay Cutler Is Going To Be A Redskin. Shanahan To Join Up In 2010?

Oh, this Jay Cutler saga just never gets old, does it? The newest bit of awesome news to come out is that the Broncos will not part ways with Cutler unless they get two - yes, TWO - first round draft picks. And a shiny new car. Thankfully, the Broncos have not required that any QB be involved in a potential deal, so there might be some possibility that a team could actually acquire Cutler.

The question is who is actually crazy enough to give up this much? Well, The Washington Post is reporting that the Redskins are actively pursuing Cutler. A source told the Post that the Redskins were trying to complete the deal as quickly as possible, although the Bucs and New York Jets were also reportedly interested.

A Broncos source has also said that Cutler could be moved as early as tomorrow.

So let me just rephrase the last two paragraphs. Cutler is basically already a Redskin. Because let's be honest here, Dan Snyder is crazy. No one will outbid him for Cutler. We all know that. Plus when Snyder wants something he'll do whatever it takes to get it, and he reportedly wants Cutler really badly.

What makes all of this even more intriguing is that everyone is also well aware that Snyder desperately wants to get his hands on Mike Shanahan when Shanahan comes back to coaching, presumably in 2010. Snyder will have to compete with Jerry Jones to get him, but if Snyder already has Cutler as a 'Skin, it would seem almost set in stone that Shanahan would reunite with Cutler. Remember, Shanahan has always been very high on Cutler.

So, even though I mocked Snyder at the beginning of this post, perhaps he's crazy like a fox. If Snyder lands Cutler, and I think he will, then he probably lands Shanahan as well in 2010.

Trading for Cutler - regardless of the cost - may be the first smart thing Snyder has ever done.

Thats my impression also,. However, Cutler hasnt done himself any favors. He could have met with McD and Xanders. He could have called Pat Bowlen. But he has not returned any calls. Refused to show up at the OTA's. He has done nothing but cry. Now he is saying he didnt want a trade. What was all that Cutler officially requested a trade. If this is all his agent he needs to get a new one.

Now I hope Denver gets 2 #1's from the Skins and  Campbell. I would not be surprised to see Shanny there next season.

I agree

This is great, the 'Skins continue to throw money down the black hole of mediocrity...
But does this mean Jason Campbell goes to the Jets, to take the Favre.."they don't want me" role?

We traded Clinton Portis to the Redskins back in '04 for a second round pick and Champ Bailey.  Now we are going to give them another Pro Bowler?
I want Jason Campbell, a second round pick in this years draft, and a first round pick in next years draft.
I heard though that the Redskins are trying to trade JC to a different team for a second round pick.

What's all that wrong with Jason Campbell?

That'd be stupid by the Redskins, but we all know Snyder isn't a genius.

Snyder will probably get Cutler and they still won't win. Just look at al the money he has spent out in salary in the past few years and they still didn't win!!

As a Broncos fan, I've been following this story since the beginning, and I don't think Cutler wanted the trade, I think his agent wants the trade.

As a diehard Redskin fan I have to say I'm against this. The one thing the franchise has never had under Snyder is personnel consistency and this is only going to make things worse, especially for Jim Zorn. I respect Shanahan, he did great things in Denver, but for once Snyder needs to stop acting like he owns a fantasy team and realize this is a real franchise.

haha....Al Davis has admitted to a mistake before?

Once that I can remember.  And supposedly that was firing Art Shell the first time.  Which in retrospect, is about the time the team started being bad until Gruden came in.  I could probably name MILLIONS of them, not that he would ever admit to them.

I agree, but his rookie season was essentially last year because of his stupid holdout.  It usually takes a (normal) QB 2-3 years to adjust to the league, and with the amount of money committed to him, I think he will get 1-2 more years before he can be declared a bust.  And Al Davis does take a long time to admit his mistakes, so who knows.

Ugh, don't remind me...I have never liked that guy, and he has this season to change my mind.  The Raiders have always done well with bringing in vets with good leadership skills, drafting QB's has never really panned out for them.  But who knows, with Cutler out of the division, the AFC West gets that much weaker!

So......he has been on the market now since Tuesday night........and he has the Redskins interested? Wow......where are the other 9 teams we heard so much about.

Wouldnt that be a twist of irony if they put him on the market and couldnt generate any interest for him. Then he would have to swallow his pride and show up to Broncos camp

I think as soon as everyone heard the Redskins were interested they said "Oh s***. There's no way we can outbid Snyder."

Seriously.

I would imagine Campbell would be included in any deal, since he was given a vote of confidence by the team just 2 weeks ago, and would be as ticked off as Cutler is now.  If the Broncos move Cutler, they would either have to get a starting QB, or a pick that would enable them to draft one.  Jim Zorn couldn't feel too safe if this deal were to be made though, Shanahan could take over now or in a year.
