About Me:
I have recently started contributing to the columns at www.nflgridirongab.com and at www.cowboysgab.com. I encourage anyone to check out what I am writing over there, but if you are afraid to check out new places I will still be continuously contributing here as well. While I still enjoy long walks down short piers and going up the ol' smelly creek with out a paddle, I have grown tired of grapefruit monkeys in my cheerios.

Jay Cutler Should Be Named Next Iron Man of Football
by Nate
7/11/08

With most of the QB talk circling around Brett Favre these days, another QB is going by unnoticed.  He has never been compared to Brett Favre, in fact, there really isn't anyone playing today that could compare.  That's not for his illustrious career stats however, it's the fact that this offseason he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Only three other players in NFL history have played the game after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, Jay Leeuwenburg, Wade Wilson, and Mike Echols.  While the disease is no longer life threatening as it was just a few years ago, the fact that only three other players were able to play with it makes it all the more impressive when someone decides to continue on with their NFL career.

Now that training camp is underway, and Jay Cutler has diagnosed and is now treating the disease with regular insilun shots, fans will be able to start seeing the true caliber of play Jay Cutler can bring to the table.  Last season, prior to being diagnosed Jay Cutler dropped to around 202 lbs and found him self becoming weaker than usual.  Jay Cutler is now back to his normal weight of around 230-235 lbs, and seems to be healthy enough.  Now only time will tell if his play on the field will show it as well.

Even if Jay Cutler doesn't turn out to be one of the greatest the game has ever seen; or anywhere close for that matter.  Even if Jay Cutler turns out to be a slightly above average, to run of the mill quarterback, he should still be considered an iron man in this game.  Iron men, play even when injured, Cutler is playing with a disease.

Great story.Kudos to Jay Cutler for his remarkable achievement..there are alot of Ironmen who receive no recognition and deserve it. My father-in law had a kidney transplant, underwent years of dialysis, and is a testament to what a true Ironman is. Thanks to God,prayerand excellent medical care he is doing alot better.
