Jay Cutler Will Be Traded By Denver Broncos; Teams Interested In Trading For Cutler
So Where Will Jay Cutler Wind Up?
As we all know - and this is not an April Fool's joke - the Broncos are going to do everything they can to trade Jay Cutler. Considering Cutler is a franchise QB who's under 30, pretty much half the NFL should be gunning for him. This kind of interest definitely means the Broncos will get some very good players or draft picks (or both) in return for him.

According to the Denver Post, here's who has expressed immediate interest:

Washington:
Makes sense, since Jason Campbell hasn't really developed into the QB that the Redskins had hoped for. You wonder what they'd have to give up for Cutler though. My guess would be Campbell and possible draft picks.

New York Jets:
They have no one at QB, period. If they managed to get their hands on Cutler, talk about one hell of an offseason. They bring in Rex Ryan, Bart Scott and a guy who could be at QB for a decade. Not only that, but they could win the AFC East if Brady's knee has some issues this year. Only problem is other teams can beat them in offering higher draft picks for Cutler.

Tampa Bay:
This could certainly work, especially since QB-hater Gruden is gone. Word is that ownership is intent on getting Cutler - after all, they did originally try and deal for him during the potential Cassel trade. Only problem is I'm not sure what they'd give in compensation for Cutler. Other teams can offer higher draft picks then Tampa.

Chicago:
Would be exactly what the Bears need, since they haven't had a viable option at QB since forever. But I don't see it happening.

Minnesota:
Cutler would suddenly turn them into a Super Bowl contendor, what with AP in the backfield and Berrian streaking down the sideline. This team would be scary good. Only problem is that Yahoo! Sports has reported that Minnesota pretty much doesn't like Cutler at all.

Detroit:
This really works incredibly well for both teams. Detroit gives Denver the #1 pick in the Draft, meaning Matt Stafford would be on his way to the Mile High City. Cutler, meanwhile, gets to freeze his whiny ass off in Detroit and turn the Lions into a 5-win team. If we're lucky, this is precisely what will happen.

Now let's get to some other teams that I think will make a play for Cutler.

49ers:
They should get involved, without question. They have Sean Hill and Alex Smith for God's sake. Getting Cutler might win them the division. However, their major problem is they don't have a high draft pick, and they really don't have anyone of value they can give Denver, aside from Patrick Willis. And honestly, if the 49ers traded Willis, the whole Bay Area would riot.

Carolina Panthers:
This one is super intriguing. Jake Delhomme sucks, so we know why they'd want Cutler. But what could they give Denver? Julius Peppers, my friend. Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 defense and that's exactly what the Broncos are changing too. I'd keep an eye on this possible deal, it works quite well.

Cleveland Browns:
They can offer high draft picks and a young QB in either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. They also have a disgruntled Braylon Edwards. There are actually a number of deals the Browns could do that make a lot of sense. I wouldn't be surprised to see them throw their hat into the ring.

I'd take the Jets and Browns out of the equation just because Denver will do everything in their power to ship Cutler to the NFC.

I know it's a long shot, but I would love for the Jets to get Cutler.  Any reason to make sure that the Jets don't draft Josh Freeman would please me very much.  They compare him to Daunte Culpepper.  Why would I want a prospect that is being compared to a quarterback who fumbled way too much and was only good when he had Randy Moss?  But, then again, we don't have a lot of offensive targets for Cutler w/Coles gone...

The 'Skins makes sense, but if Zorn would grow some and bench Campbell and get Brennan going they would be fine - but if he isn't, Cutler would be an excellent choice - if he could grow up and stop the Farve whining crap...

My guess is Washington goes after Cutler and then goes after Shanahan after next season.  Kind of messed up for Zorn, but it fits Snyder's MO.  The Jets will push hard though, being in New York and having dealt with Bus Cook previously.  But the Broncos may be lucky to have a bidding war on their hands.

hopefully it is somewhere that he can skip out on practices if he gets unhappy.

Well I am just hoping where ever Jay ends up they have turnstiles for tackles, not that I am bitter or anything. . .

If the 9ers trade Huard and a 2nd rounder for Cutler, that would be a steal. And why not? The Broncos now want to get rid of him, and what better than some team out of their conference.

I don't think any part of that deal would sound appealing to Denver, or any other team for that matter.  It's going to take a 1st round pick and then some for Cutler, and with so many teams interested, a bidding war will certainly ensue.  If the Niners are interested, they would need to come up with a heck of a lot more than that.

As much as I think we would be OK with Shaun Hill, I don't think the Niners can pass on Cutler.  The good news is, Cutler's value has never been as low as it is right now.  If we could get him for our 2nd or 3rd rounder in 2009 and maybe a conditional late round pick in 2010, we'd be getting a steal.

I hope he winds up as a Lion. I wouldn't mind if he comes to Detroit.

If he was this big of a baby over what's happening in Denver. How do you think he'll react to the New York media when he chokes away another playoff spot, while not finishing over .500 again, and proving himself not to be a franchise QB?

Unless there's a bidding war for Cutler, I can't see the Broncos getting what they want in return.  They have an unhappy player and everyone and their mother's cat knows it.  So it could be that they will either be stuck with a (soon to be) locker room leper or they will wind up letting him go for a lot less than they hoped.

Another fan article where the guy doesn't have any clue what hes talking about when addressing the Niners.

Not only did he spell his first name wrong, he obviously has no idea what Hill's career record is and stats are.
Pretty funny, thanks for the laugh.

Here are couple of trade scenarios i think could work out:

1. Broncos trade Cutler to Lions for either 20th or 33rd overall pick.
They then trade their 5th round pick to Cleveland for Derek Anderson and the Lions send them their 3rd.

This way the Lions give up a 1st/2nd (20th or 33 overall) and 3rd for Cutler

The Broncos get a 1st/2nd (20th or 33 overall) and Anderson

The Browns get a 3rd and 5th for Anderson

Sounds about fair to me.......although Anderson might require a higher asking price which hes not worth but due to the position teams are in they might have to suck it up...

or

2. Denver signs a QB and trades him for a 1st and 3rd from NYJ, CHI, Tampa, Minny, Det

or

3. Trade him for a first and a QB to a team like Minny and they send him back Rosenfels or someone a stop gap.

That would never happen.  The Broncos want to get rid of him but at the same time they also understand exactly what they have and that is a pro bowl quarterback who once is out of Denver will return to the type of locker room guy that he was.
They would never ever accept Damon Huard in a trade for Cutler and if they accept a second round pick in this years draft it would also come with ATLEAST Alex Smith, Allan Rossum, and a first round pick in next years draft.
Expect the Broncos to ask for a lot and accept nothing less than that.

Here is what's going to happen. They are going to talk trades for a while and then tell Cutler and his agent that there are no trades out there. The agent is going to respond by saying there are offers out there you just want too much for him. Then the Broncos can say that they tried. Then they will talk a contrct extention and he will be stuck in Denver. He will learn his lesson and stop whining and finnally realize that he is not the only player this has happened to.

Cutler won't be traded for an active player.  Nobody trades man-for-man anymore.  He'll be traded for a high draft pick, probably two or three.  The trouble for Denver is everyone knows how bad Cutler wants out, so his value isn't nearly as high as it would be if this whole drama wasn't going on.  If they ask for too much and nobody buys in, they're stuck with a very unhappy QB for the rest of the season.

1. This is what I would like to see happen but instead of Anderson I would like it to be Brady Quinn.  I have liked what I have seen from him in his limited playing time in Cleveland.  I think this would also force the Broncos to give up nothing lower than a 4th round pick though.  I would also like it to be a 2nd or 3rd rounder from the lions and a 1st rounder in next years draft going to the Broncos.  With how bad the Lions would still play next year the Broncos would be garuanteed a top 5ish pick.  There would be so many options to choose from at quarterback it would be amazing.

2.  I have no idea who the Broncos could sign.. is Jeff George still a free agent?

3. I would want Travaris Jackson.

"Anderson might require a higher asking price which hes not worth but due to the position teams are in they might have to suck it up..."
hahahaha sounds a bit like price guaging to me..

as a Packers fan I don't want to see Cutler with either the Lions or the Bears but I think at this point the Lions have the most to offer the Broncos in return.  They would probably give up their 1st and 20th pick for him which would be nice.  The Jets and Bucs have good defensive players they could give to the Broncos, who are lacking in that department, but they can't offer them a veteran QB or any good draft picks.

Your right but if the 49ers really want Cutler then they better be ready to pony up the busts.  If Cutler is in a situation that he likes then he makes makes little noise which I believe will hold some value when discussing what they will take for him.  They will start off asking for way to much and then start asking for less and less until the minute the recieve an offer that is fair.  With how good he is but how much of a distraction he has been this offseason it is hard to determine when those offers are going to come.  When they are asking for a starter and picks up the wazoo or when they are just asking for 2nd and 3rd rounder?  Hard to tell, but what is easy to tell is that Jay Cutler will not be in a Broncos jersey next year and hopefully not on there schedule.

The Broncos have to get a QB back if they trade Cutler..  As appealing as Chris Simms, Darrell Hackney, Damon Huard, or Alex Smith would be, they need someone who can actually play.  Cutler's still under an affordable contract for three more years (almost as valuable as his talent right now), so I don't think they will deal him for garbage or just a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Who would want a crybaby like this.  I almost get the initial sting of being trade bait....but get over it!

I hope he goes to the skins, denver most likely would get 2 picks and Campbell. Cutler is now the new Jeff George. Sure he has talent but with a 17-20 record he isnt worth all the crap he is spewing. Plus it wasnt the defense that threw the ill timed pick in the endzone against the Bills that would have gotten Denver into the playoffs. Hey Jay dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya

I don't think it's necessarily a given they get a QB back, and certainly not a current starter for any team.  Remember, Randy Moss went to the Patriots for a 4th round pick.  You just don't get player for player value anymore, especially when Cutler has completely destroyed his value by making it known to every team in the league he wants out.

It's going to be some sort of package involving either many mid-to-late picks or a couple of high picks.  Then, Denver will either start the season with Simms, who unceremoniously lost his starting job after a splenectomy.  Or they will sign a free agent QB like Jeff Garcia, or make another trade before or on draft day with the picks they get.

Randy Moss was an aging malcontent at the time he was traded, and the Raiders just wanted to get rid of him, removing any leverage they had in the process.  Al Davis also took the time to move him, seeing if there was anything of worth for him.  Brett Favre wanted him in Green Bay and was angry at the fact the team didn't want to pony up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.  Nobody would've guessed he would work out the way he has in New England.

If Cutler can't be exchanged for either a high pick and a player, or a starter-capable QB, Denver has no obligation to move him.  Cutler is under contract for two more years and his rights are owned by Denver.  With so many teams expressing interesting, it is likely that a bidding war will ensue, and Cutler will go to the highest bidder.  It would be nice to see that be the Niners, but I think he will go elsewhere.

There just aren't a lot of QBs available with the talent and potential Cutler has..  There about 5 times as many teams out there that would love to bring in Cutler now than wanted a guy like Moss then.  He wants out, but the fact he's got the tools and will not even cost you $3 million a year, I think, is pretty damn valuable.  They may not get a QB directly for Cutler, and if they don't, they will need to get the chips necessary to acquire a decent quarterback..
I just don't want to see the Broncos spoil the good young core they have on offense outside of Cutler, and I still remember Simms as the QB who crapped the bed against CU in the Big 12 title game on '01.
I'm just ready for this soap opera to be over

if the Broncos are smart they would do the trade with Cleveland for Brady Quinn.  getting the first pick from the Lions is nice but I'd rather have Quinn who at least has some NFL experience versus Matt Stafford who has none.
