As if the Jeremy Lin story wasn't absurd enough, now there's rumors that he's going to be going out on a date with Kim Kardashian. It's supposedly a double date with Lin's teammate Carmelo Anthony and his wife Lala, who is a friend of Kardashian.This is the kind of thing that makes me think that the Mayans might actually be right about the world ending in 2012. Or perhaps I should have seen this one coming.
Not surprisingly, people are questioning Kim's motives for going after Lin. I can't say I blame them. She's a notorious attention seeker, and has proven that she'll do pretty much anything to make a few bucks. Her fame originated from a sex tape with Ray J, and her wedding with Nets player Kris Humphries netted her millions of dollars.
Also, it's rumored that the master plan for Kim K. has always been for her to end up with one of the Knicks players. She was apparently turned down by former Knicks 1st round pick Danilo Gallinari before she settled on Humphries.
Lin's impact on the Knicks has been more than simply his performance on the court. People are actually interested in the Knicks again, even without superstar Anthony. Ticket prices are skyrocketing on the secondary market, and the internet is buzzing about Linsanity.

Even former Rockets star Yao Ming has gotten in on the act. Ming is one of many Chinese fans who are excited about the success that Lin, who is of Taiwanese descent, is having in the NBA.
"Fans here in China are very excited about Jeremy Lin. He is news all over the place. His story is always on the cover page of the newspaper now. He is not drafted. He signs a minimum contract. In his first year he barely gets minutes to play. Then he gets a chance and in one night he owns New York town. Since the NBA games are on in the morning because of the time difference in China, you wake up every day and you want to see what he did. What was the score? What were his points and assists? Every day the excitement grows. They win again today and now he is 7-0. Where does the story go next?"
He's being compared to Tim Tebow, he's being ranked among the best point guards in the game, he's going to be assisting Iman Shumpert in the Slam Dunk Contest, and he has even inspired racism from a national sports columnist. Next, his high school coach will be on hand for the Knicks game against the Mavericks on Sunday, sitting court side next to legendary Knicks fan Spike Lee, who will be wearing Lin's high school jersey.
The sky appears to be the limit for Lin, whose popularity is at an all-time high. Let's see if he's smart enough to avoid the Kardashian Kurse. Just ask Reggie Bush... she's not worth it.
