I was aware we were upon the 20th anniversary of Jerome Lane's backboard breaking dunk, and more importantly Bill Raftery's reverberating call, but not until College Gamenight pointed it out did I know tonight was the night.
20 years ago SEND IT IN JEROME!!!! captivated my attention and as far as I can remember serves as one of my first memories of college hoops on television.
You can't go a college season without watching and joining Raftery in exalting his famous phrase, so carry on.
Too bad, or fortunately, we have breakaway rims now. Can you imagine how many shattered backboard we would have with some of the dunkers now? Dwight Howard alone would cause the season to be twice as long in from the replacing delays.
Show how old i'm now, I remember when he was Jet Lane, and played for the CBA Rapid City Thrillers....picked up a number of autographs from him....some players come back to the CBA and die, some revamp and come back out.....now, not much left of the CBA to work with.
