I was always told that “you’re only as good as the company you keep.” This has seemed to ring true in the Sandusky scandal this week. Longtime coach Joe Paterno was fired for allegedly knowing of Sandusky raping children and not doing anything about it. Last night, Sandusky was interviewed on NBC by Bob Costas. The interview was creepy, to say the least.
What makes it creepier is that Sandusky’s lawyer apparently likes his women young. According to reports, defense attorney Joe Amdendola, who is representing Sandusky, impregnated a teenager and later married her. According to documents filed with Centre County Courthouse, Amendola was an attorney for Mary Iavasile, who petitioned for emancipation on September 3rd, 1996, just weeks before her 17th birthday. The petition said nothing about her relationship with Amendola, but around the same time she became pregnant with Amendola’s child. At the time, Joe was around 49.
Birds of a feather must really flock together. While I believe in the statement that “Satan has a right to good counsel”, this does not look good for Sandusky. At this point, there is very little that can make people think any less of Sandusky, but this has to raise some red flags. It’s like he met the lawyer at a NAMBLA meeting and asked from representation. Just a sick case that is getting more and more disgusting.
