Jets RB Mike Goodson’s legal cases pile up, including latest paternity lawsuit
Goodson’s legal woes have been piling up lately, promising to keep his lawyer busy in court for a while at least. The fifth-year veteran is dealing with five charges in the fallout of his May 17 arrest in New Jersey for drug and gun possession. Now, a woman from Houston is suing Goodson for retroactive child support, lump-sum child support and health insurance, according to court documents.
The 26-year-old Goodson allegedly fathered four children with the woman between 2005 and 2011. But, court records show that Goodson is the biological father to three of the children.
The woman also filed a lawsuit for paternity and child support against Goodson between August 2010 and May 2011 but later retracted the case and declined to state why she no longer intended to purse a legal action against the player. At that time, the woman was living with Goodson’s mother. But currently the woman and her four children are living at her parent’ house.
Shortly after the latest lawsuit was filed, the woman identified as Ashlee Wilson, came forward claiming she never asked her attorney to pursue a case against Goodson. But her lawyer claims that Wilson verbally authorized him to file the lawsuit.
Besides this incident, two other women have also filed paternity lawsuits against Goodson since August 2010. One of the woman reportedly lived-in with Goodson for two years in Charlotte. Goodson has fathered a total of six children with the three women.
Coming into the NFL as a fourth-round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2009 NFL draft, Goodson's reputation for irresponsibility preceded him despite being recognized as a talented player by many. It was known for some time that Goodson fathered multiple children with multiple women. So, there always existed the possibility of future legal issues for the player.
Goodson’s legal woes also include a lawsuit by a jewelry store for a $56,000 unpaid bill, and separate cases stemming for outstanding rent for two different apartment complexes.
He received a $1 million signing bonus upon inking a three-year, $6.9 million contract with the Jets on 15th March.
