WELL WELL WELL...
The Jets stunned the nation by defeating a talented Falcons team in primetime behind an absolutely exceptional game by the Jets defense and a highly efficient Geno Smith. This win brings the Jets to 3-2 and gives them a ton of momentum going into week 6 against the Steelers. Everyone including myself did not think the Jets could pull this one off, but they did it and proved to me that they are better than how they played last week in Nashville. Rex Ryan's defensive line was dominant, they stuffed the run and made Matty “Ice” very cold and uncomfortable.
First off, the rookie quarterback shined in Atlanta and played like a veteran. Smith did not turn the ball over which has been a weakness of his throughout the season. He ran when he had to, took the sack when he had to, and scored touchdowns when he had to. Jets fans rejoice because this is the Geno Smith that will be on the field for years to come. Smith drove down the field for his third game-winning fourth quarter drive this season without any real playmakers on offense.
...which let me address
Kerley is solid and I want him on the field a majority of the time. Hill has the size and speed but can't seem to make a difference on a week to week basis. At tight end the combination of Winslow and Cumberland has worked thus far but in reality who scares defenses? Nobody.
This offense would be abysmal if it weren't for Geno Smith and his play this year. He has the arm to make throws in tight windows, the legs to keep a play going, and the mind(which will continue to develop) of a quarterback who is learning how to keep his team in the game. The fact that was passed on by all 32 teams in the first round gives Geno his motivation to prove he was worth it.
Moving to the defensive side of the ball, the Jets D-Line is FILTHY, like Michael Douglas' mouth filthy but in a better way. Mo Wilkerson disrupted the Falcons offense and has solidified himself as one of the best linemen in the NFL. Richardson acted as his Robin, aiding in the destruction of the offensive line. The strong play of the D-Line helped an average Jets secondary with their coverage of two top receivers in Julio Jones and Roddy White(luckily White is banged up and it appears Jones is too). Cromartie had a blanket on Julio all night, add the pass rush and you have a winning formula for Gang Green.
Nick Folk has been great by the way, thought I should mention that.
Moving forward I can realistically see the Jets going 9-7 with wins against the Steelers, Bills, Raiders, Panthers, Browns, and get one from Miami.
I also met Joe Klecko this weekend, great guy.....and he likes cheese fries.
