Tuesday Morning Benchwarmer
I'll be the first to admit, I was dead wrong.
The Jets played like schoolyard kids...check that, they could have been beaten by schoolyard kids.
Geno Smith and crew lost this Sunday to a Titans team that I vastly underrated. Smith's decision making in this game was much worse than those he made in previous weeks. But the penalties---oh the penalties, this team needs to learn some discipline.
10 penalties for 66 yards won't win any games for your team, especially when you have a rookie quarterback with growing pains. I must point out that Vladimir Ducasse is just God AWFUL. The man should not be the Jets starting left guard and is a liability. While watching the game I could tell that Vlad was lost—just lost out there. I'm sure he's a great guy, has a few years under his belt, but there is definitely a better option out there whether that man is on the roster or not. THE BIG UGLY cannot be a starter on this team. Geno needs to be protected, not on his back five times a game.
Most of the stats between the two teams were actually surprisingly identical. The glaring problem with the Jets is of course were the four turnovers. Because of those mistakes the Jets could not even manage to find their way into the Titans' red zone. And the 3rd down efficiency could have been better(4-13) Stephen Hill NEEDS more than one target, that offense needs to find a way to get him the ball because he is a vital part of scoring points.
On the bright side(yes one exists)
The Jets spread the wealth by passing the ball to nine different receivers over the course of the game. Even the team's running game was solid, before they were forced to pass. Bilal Powell had 66 yards on 14 carries averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Mike Goodson is now eligible to play this week on Monday Night Football against the struggling Falcons. It will be interesting to see how Goodson is brought into the Jets offense. Bilal is definitely the starter and I would only imagine here on out for Ivory, Goodson, or anyone else to only be a change of pace back.
Defensively the Jets need to get more pressure on the quarterback. Calvin Pace and Antwan Barnes each had sacks but in order to force turnovers this Rex Ryan defense makes its money by making the quarterback uncomfortable in the pocket. The Jets secondary is no longer elite and their lack of talent showed. This Jets team is going to be up and down all year, especially on the road as they are now 0-2 away from Metlife. I am sure the Falcons can't wait to play this team and I have a feeling that game in Atlanta isn't going to be pretty.
Geno will ultimately be the main cause for a mediocre Jets season, but he will be the reason for better Jets seasons in the future.
And even better news for the Jets is that Mark Sanchez will not be a Jet next season and will quietly leave New York, not before laughing to the bank though. Also, the NFL has no right to fine Wilkerson or Coples for that hit on Locker. Do you agree or disagree?
