The Los Angeles Lakers owner was obviously asked about the decision to give Kobe a ton of money during an important free agency year. He gave an answer that was more fitting for a fan.
"He means so much to the family, the Lakers, the Lakers fans. It feels good to lock up an icon like that. It was what we felt was the right thing to do. We just didn't think that it was possible to see him in another uniform."
Granted, as a Lakers fan, it would definitely be hard to see No. 24 in a different uniform, but that's probably not the best way to make a decision. Jim also clarified why the organization didn't wait until seeing how Kobe looks when he comes back:
"We didn't see the point of waiting. As far as trusting Kobe coming back on the court, you're a fool if you don't think he's going to [play well]. I have 100% faith."
It remains to be seen just hoe good Kobe is when he come back, but you have to wonder the motives behind this signing. (Yes, there are about a dozen other theories on the signing. Feel free to share yours)
