Anyway, I bring this up because Jim DeChamp tried to do the first front flip on a motorbike in X-Games history this past weekend, and it did not go well.
All he wound up with was a fractured vertebra, which is like getting your knee skinned if you're an extreme athlete, so everything's cool.
DeChamp lay still for a few minutes before walking off under his own power. What television viewers and those in attendance didn't see was DeChamp collapsing afterward in the athlete area.
"He said, 'Look, I've got to get up, I'm going to walk out of here,' " said Pastrana, who was by his side. "Then, he's like, 'cameras off?' I said, 'Yep,' and he just fell down and said, 'Take me to the hospital.' "

By the way, I hate to say this, but DeChamp has had some past experiences doing similar things, as evidenced by this front flip attempt on a bike below which somehow looks even worse.
I hate to say it, but at some point, someone's going to get paralyzed or die at the X-Games. Jake Brown had that horrible fall last year and we had DeChamp with a fractured vertebra this year. And by the way, I'm not a doctor, but I will say this. Neither Brown nor DeChamp should ever in a million years have been allowed to walk off under their own power. They should have been put on stretchers.
But whatever, enough of my less than extreme attitude. Let's crush some vertebra, brah!
