Jim Irsay: Colts not in run for Giants WR Victor Cruz
But after having some fun and holding the Twittersphere practically in his hand for hours, Jim Irsay shot down the possibility of Victor Cruz being targeted by the Indianapolis Colts.
“It’s not (Victor) Cruz, no,” Jim Irsay conveyed on Sunday.
New York Giants executive Steve Tisch believed some team may attempt to steal away the receiver during free agency. But now the New York Giants can draw a breath of relief and continue their attempts of re-signing Victor Cruz to a long-term deal after he posted two consecutive 1000-yards seasons with the team.
In the case of the Indianapolis Colts, they could offer a first round pick offer in exchange for the 2012 Pro Bowler Victor Cruz. But the New York Giants would still be able to match the offer made to Victor Cruz or take the compensation made for the player by the other team.
Victor Cruz is one of the top free agent receivers currently on the market, but the Indianapolis Colts have their eyes on other options as well. The Indianapolis Colts were long expected to add depth to their receiving corps. Recently Jim Irsay tweeted that the Indianapolis Colts had been working on a deal over the past few days and came "very, very, very close” to making it happen, while calling the mystery receiver a "whopper."
The St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings were also previously rumored to be pursuing Victor Cruz. But after both teams cleared the air of not being in the mix for signing the receiver, most signs predominantly point to another season for Victor Cruz in the Metlife Stadium.
