With Darrelle Revis out for the year, the Jets are scrambling to try to replace him in their defensive backfield.Unfortunately, Revis is basically irreplaceable, and the Jets are extremely short on depth in that particular area.
So what's the solution? They're going to have running back Joe McKnight play cornerback. Coach Rex Ryan says that he'll play there "a ton," according to Connor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger.
McKnight has already taken some snaps at cornerback, and he has made some plays here and there. He has also been practicing there for a while.
Since he has been awful as a running back, it's not the worst idea in the world. McKnight is very athletic and has great instincts. He might not be terrible as a defender.
The Patriots have done a lot of this over the years, with guys like Troy Brown in the past, and more recently receivers Julian Edelman and Matthew Slater playing defense last year.
The Jets are a bit of a mess right now, and they might want to consider putting Tim Tebow somewhere useful, since his offensive production has been minimal thus far. Either way, this should be an interesting idea.
