Joey Logano to Penske? Matt Kenseth to Joe Gibbs Racing?

No 'Official Announcement' but no denials from Logano - He moves to Penske

Blog Photo - Joey Logano to Penske? Matt Kenseth to Joe Gibbs Racing? There hasn't been an official announcement, but when Joey Logano was asked this weekend about his impending move to Penske Racing, he didn't deny it.  Perhaps it is his youth and lack of experience in dealing with the media.  The Charlotte Observer went so far as to publish the story as a "done deal" and included the information that Matt Kenseth will move into the 20 car in 2013.  The Charlotte Observer has always been known for having their finger on the pulse of all things NASCAR, most famously with David Poole, who passed away in 2009.  Poole was not only a reporter, but contributed to the NASCAR Channel on XM Sirius Radio.  Jim Utter has become almost as famous, and is known for reporting the facts.

If the Observer says it's so, it's so.

Matt Kenseth has been quiet since announcing that he was leaving Rousch Racing, simply saying he would not announce where he was going until everything could be announced.  Well, that will happen on Tuesday, according to Utter.

This weekend, Office Depot announced that they would be leaving Stewart-Haas Racing in 2013.  Although Tony Stewart is the defending Sprint Cup Champion, he has not had the season expected, and he has been his usual outspoken self, even resorting to throwing his helmet at Matt Kenseth last weekend.

It is expected that Tuesday's announcements will include the news that Matt is taking over the No. 20 ride, sponsored by Home Depot and Dollar General, while Joey Logano moves to the 22 to take over the Shell Penzoil ride.  Joey will be the fourth driver in that seat in the past year.  Kurt Busch was fired last year and AJ Allmendinger took over the seat.  However, his suspension for drug use has Sam Hornish Jr in the car.  Although Sam is doing a decent job in the car, Penske is used to winning.  He wants a driver who can win, and it seems he thinks Joey can win for him.

Time will tell, as Joey has failed to make the Chase in all of his years with Gibbs, and can only make the Chase this year with a win at Richmond.  While that isn't as farfetched as it might seem,. it seems unlikely.

So what say you all.  Will these moves help Penske and Gibbs?  And what of Rousch, who has two drivers in the top ten this year, but can't seem to put a decent set of wheels under Carl Edwards.

Good moves?  Or bad ones?

The week of people signing contracts continues, Ryan Newman will be back with SHR for 2013 as he signed a one year deal.

So, the "official" announcements were made.  Kenseth walked in and called out "Surprise!!" when he was introduced.  He and Joe Gibbs wore matching shirts.  How cute.

I mean, the sport was started basically from moonshiners or so the story goes. Trying to appeal to the politically conscious/correct has drug this sport to an all time low. Just my opinion. Just like Winston being replaced, I'm waiting for them to decide the beer sponsors need to go.

I don't think they will get rid of the beer sponsors, that is way too much money for Nascar to pass up. Well Crown Royal is still sponsoring a race at Indy.

So how was Crown Royal pushed out by Nascar?

I like the moves for both Penske and Gibbs.  IMO, Logano always seemed like the odd man out with Joe Gibbs Racing and with Kenseth taking over, the #20 instantly becomes a contender in 2013.  As for Penske, you know have Logano and Keselowski in that stable, two of the young drivers in the sport.  The skies the limit for those two guys in 2013 and beyond.

First off, ick to Jim Utter. Outside of maybe Ed Hinton, there isn't a NASCAR writer more anti-Indy Car. *Bleep* that guy.

I would call Logano over Hornish a potential play given their respective ages. Hornish has looked much improved since taking the #22 ride over. I mean, Logano has all of 2 wins, and one of those was a lucky rain shortened win.

In other news, NASCAR appears to be on the verge of having complete control of American sports car racing. ALMS and Grand-Am are merging, and will compete as one series beginning 2014. From what I've heard, it's the merge the same way the IRL and Champ Car merge, with ALMS being Champ Car in this situation.

awww, poor Uncle Carl. Ok, on to more important things. WoW, Joey leaving? Think this has been on the horizon for awhile. Not surprised. That Kenseth is going to Gibbs? Not really surprised but a bit. Why is it the fans discuss all this stuff and then a few months down the road we find out we were right?  Office Depot bounces around to whatever the bigger fish is   in their minds. Sponsors want their names on winners, ummm rephrasing, on who they think are the winners.  On a side note, Tony had a crappy first half of the season and came back to win the Championship  last year. Nothing is decided til the final race.
