John Calipari Calls Out Pat Forde On Twitter
If Coach Cal Doesn't Want People Questioning His Recruiting Tactics, The Solution Is Very Simple. Do It Right.

John Calipari is clearly a little less than thrilled with Pat Forde's reporting for ESPN. Apparently, Forde brought up some questionable Calipari recruiting moves in the past, and Calipari took offense, as noted by his scathing tweet from yesterday.

I can only assume that Cal knows how to spell Forde's name, but chopped the 'e' because he had to stay within the 140-character limit.

Should Calipari really be upset about this sort of thing? Clearly, Forde is just doing his job. If Calipari wants to avoid things like that, then the answer is simple: everything he does must be above reproach. Don't play the Billy Gillispie game where you recruit middle schoolers, don't make illegal tweets, don't get caught up in scandals, and everything should be cool.

It seems to me that Pat Forde has a beef with UK basketball in general for some reason.  For a supposed life-long UK fan, 99% of the time, he's the voice of negativity when it comes to the Wildcats!
Coach Calipari is "just doing his job" too, and his job is much tougher than criticizing every move Kentucky makes, which is clearly all Pat Forde is worried about.  Forde probably thinks HE should be the head coach at UK.
It's just another illustration why Calipari is less likely to cheat, because there is ALWAYS someone digging and watching for him to slip up.  He's a "master of the grey area", even a blatant "loophole finder" if you will, but last time I checked- that's not cheating.  And WHAT GOOD COLLEGE COACH DOESN'T FIND LOOPHOLES TO GIVE THEM AN ADVANTAGE IN RECRUITING?!
If Calipari wasn't nailed at Memphis, good luck now that he's at a powerhouse like UK!  He won't need to cheat to recruit the big stars in Lexington.

Smoke........ eventually leads to fire, usually. If you are Cal, why throw gas on this fire by responding to Forde? I'd think that if you really want the story to go away you just don't comment, rather than posting tweets about it.

But this won't make any difference for UK, nor should it. Not a big deal, really IMO.

Darn right we did!!  We asked for a coach who could recruit the most talented players and so far, that's what we've got.  I'll gladly take haters criticizing Coach Cal's tactics as long as he keeps bringing in these talent-packed recruiting classes.  Gillispie's recruiting class was ranked #27 and for some reason, nobody had a problem with it.

memphis is under investagation for recruitment problems when Calipari was at UMass the year he left to go to the pro's UMass was was under investagation for recruitment problems. One time is a mistake twice becomes a trend so this is what UK is pinning their hope's on,"if we can't get there one way then by GOD we will get there by any means it take's us."Eddie Sutton left the program in a shambles,Tubby Smith wasn't much better, now UK is saying we just going to find ourselves a better cheater.so go ahead UK win your 2,000 game seems to me it's just going to be a taint victory anyways.

Sounds like sour grapes from a guy who just can't handle the fact that UNC will be probably be second place to UK in wins, championships, and attendance for the next oh--FOREVER.  As you grasp for anything to discredit UK's history think about this, UNC has played almost two whole seasons worth of games more than UK!  Plus, UK has been officially stripped of any wins relating to the Eddie Sutton recruiting fiasco and they're still on top!

You conveniently leave out the entire Rick Pitino era, highlighted by a trip to the Final Four in 1993, a national title in 1996, and a runner up in 1997!  Tubby Smith won it all in 1998, and there were no allegations of misconduct against either one of them.  Get down off your high horse buddy, and smell the roses.  UK IS BACK, AND YOU AINT GONNA CATCH THEM NOW!!

yet my life will go on if UK gets there first or Carolina gets there first.Truthfully i graduated UNC many years ago and have left that mind set many years ago.But when you look back at the schools who done it right as much as i hate to say it you have to look at schools such as Duke UNC who haven't had recruitment problems in many years. No sour grapes but rather instead of concern for a young man's education let's win a trophy mindset disturbs me.You certainly have the right to feel about me in manner you wish but this goes futher than just a basketball record or who get's the most wins. The bottom line is cheating is cheating and you dress it up anyway you want it still comes out cheating.

oh and by the way when it come's to right and wrong there is no such thing as grey area, and most people would say the grey area that someone is a master of is cheating.just ask chad knaus, jimmie johnson's crew chief who thought he was the master of the grey area and found out twice in two year's grey area is still cheating.

UK's last major violation, which was admittedly the worst-of-the-worst kind, was over twenty years ago (1988)!!  You act like they are in front of the NCAA review board every year!

Duke's last infraction, as I'm sure you'll be happy to hear, was just last December, when a Duke sent an assistant coach to John Wall's high school game during a recruiting "dead period".  Here's a link to that story http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/duke/mens_basketball/story/1347410.html .  So don't give me the "UNC and Duke do it the right way" BS argument.  They all do things that they'd rather not get back to the NCAA.  And sometimes the NCAA looks the other way for some coaches and programs.

Why don't we see all these headlines about Duke committing NCAA violations?  Here's why, Duke and Coach K don't command media attention like a polarizing figure like John Calipari and the Kentucky program as a whole.  UK is the big dog, and now they've got a big dog coach, and most people outside of Kentucky fans, would love to see it all come crashing down.

And maybe it will, but please spare me your concerns about these kids mentalities and their educations.   They go to Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina for three reasons--To get exposure, to compete at the highest level college has to offer, and ultimately to make it to the NBA so they can make millions.  It's these coaches' jobs to make sure that the ones who are talented enough realize that dream make it to the next level.  The kids don't give a crap about getting a college education; why should the coaches.  Some are just not cut out for college, and 95% of them will never have to work again after a stint on an NBA roster anyway.  If they don't make it in the NBA, then they can always go BACK to college to finish if they need to.   They only have one shot at the NBA.

You are by far so much more educated than me in all area's of life and sport's that I now realize I should've just kept my mouth shut and just accept and respected your thought's no matter how misguided and lame they are.So here's to you and your UK Wildcat's,oh and I was just wondering how many year's did you spend at UK?

Yeah.... that was a big time recruiting violation by Duke... nothing at all like say, willingly and knowingly participating in a SAT test fraud to get a recruit to come to your school.... say, like what happened with Derek Rose?

Interesting isn't it that Duke has never had to forefit a game, much less a season... and the only two places that Cal has ever coached in the NCAA (UMass and Memphis) are *both* going to have to forefit entire seasons and vacate their final four appearances.... All I can say is that UK is gonna get what they paid for outta Cal.

Comparing that "dead period" violation, in which the dates really weren't made all that clear by the NCAA, to SAT test forgery...well, I'm sure anyone with any kind of a brain can realize the difference between those two things. MAJOR recruiting violation at Memphis, MAJOR recruiting violation at UMass.... you do the math, bro.

Regardless of how it compares, it's still considered a MAJOR violation.  And how bout paying Corey Maggette to play for Duke?  Is that MAJOR enough for you?  The only reason they didn't have to vacate any wins is because the NCAA looked the other way.  Perhaps Duke payed them off too.  Just as wild an accusation as saying Calipari knew anything about Rose faking his exams.  Do you expect him to hold his prospects' hands while they go in and take their SAT's?

I SAY AGAIN-AND FEEL FREE TO DIG ALL YOU WANT TO TRY TO PROVE ME WRONG!!!!!!!! COACH CALIPARI WAS NOT NAMED IN THE REPORT!! GET OVER IT!! THIS INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR.  DON'T YOU THINK BY NOW THEY'D HAVE SOMETHIING ON HIM IF HE WAS AT FAULT?

The public, and the NCAA, will be the judges.... and no, what Duke did was not considered a *Major* violation. If it was, there would have been sanctions and there were none. Just like Magette, back in the day 100 years ago.

Tell you what, I'll agree with you that Cal had nothing to do with it, it's not his fault and he's not culpable in any way, shape or form for the violations at Memphis or UMass if you'll agree with me that nothing Duke has been involved in is a *Major* violation and that the NCAA didn't just "look the other way" because they were "payed off". That sound like a good deal to you?

Because it seems to me that you are totally willing to bury your head in the sand and accept, word for word, verbatim, that Cal is totally innocent no matter what the circumstantial evidence says and yet at the same time you are totally willing to believe that Duke is guilty of all sorts of *major* violations even though the NCAA does not think that to be the case.... hypocrit much?

I mean, other than the fact that you are a total homer fan how can you say on the one hand that the NCAA is totally *right* when they say that Cal had nothing to do with the violations at Memphis and then on the other hand that the NCAA is *wrong* or worse yet is outright *lying* when they say the exact same thing about Duke, i.e. that Coach K wasn't involved in paying Maggette?

Which way is it? Is the NCAA right and honest, like you seem to think they are being with Cal or is the NCAA crooked and dishonest, like you seem to think they are being with Duke?

I am responding to everyone calling Calipari a cheater before anything is actually known and despite the FACT that the NCAA is not accusing him of cheating.  Any UK fan with any balls would do the same thing.  If it takes throwing out wild accusations to prove my point, then that's what I'll do.  Obviously the point was lost on you.  If the NCAA has evidence that Calipari cheated, then I'd like to see it before I say, "Well yeah, he's a slimeball cheater." I'm not so much of a homer that I would bury my head in the sand if there WAS REAL EVIDENCE AGAINST HIM, but I will stick up for him until the time comes when there is AT LEAST AN ALLEGATION AGAINST HIM!  I don't give a damn about Coach K's recruiting to be honest.  But you cannot deny that Duke violated the NCAA regulations last year!  THEY ADMITTED IT!! So where do you come off accusing someone of cheating!?!?

I didn't accuse anyone of cheating... I'm just saying where there is smoke there is fire and you can't deny that everywhere Cal has been coach there have been *major* violations that caused games to be forfeited.

The only person I'm accusing of anything is you. I'm accusing you of being a hypocrit. Because you are totally willing to believe everything the NCAA has to say in regards to Memphis and Cal's lack of involvment, but in the same breath you accuse the NCAA of outright lying and "looking the other way" when it comes to Duke.

So I'll ask again, which is it? Is the NCAA honest and accurate, like you say they are being with Cal's involvement in the scandal at Memphis, or is the NCAA dishonest and crooked, like you say they are being when "looking the other way" at Duke?

I used the Maggette example to illustrate my point that people, like you in particular, are making strong accusations about Calipari such as, "he willingly and knowingly participated in academic fraud" without knowing the first thing about it, and all the while ignoring the blatant fact that the even NCAA think he's innocent.  I admit, I don't know what, if anything, happened with Corey Maggette when he was at Duke.  OK-You happy now!? : )
