Blog Photo - John Lackey injured in first start with the Red SoxThe Red Sox are saying that John Lackey has a strained biceps muscle, but it looked like it could be something more than that when he left the mound in Toronto in the 5th inning.

Lackey threw a pitch that drifted inside on Jose Reyes, and immediately clutched his arm in pain.

He left the game after 4 1/3 solid innings in which he gave up 5 hits and struck out eight.

This is a huge disappointment for Lackey, who just spent over a year rehabilitating from elbow surgery. This was his first start since September 25, 2011.

The good news is that Lackey looked good in his 2013. The bad news is that it's possible we won't see him on the mound again for a long time.

Alfredo Aceves is viewed as the likely 5th starter if Lackey misses an extended period of time. If that doesn't work out, the Sox could consider calling up a prospect like Ruby de la Rosa or Alan Webster, both of whom were impressive in spring training.

That's like saying Brian Roberts is injured again. No real surprise.
