Last February, Jon Bon Jovi promised the city of Philadelphia that he would give them a free concert if his Philadelphia Soul won the Arena Football League Championship. In July, the Soul won ArenaBowl XXII. At that point, he promised fans that the concert would happen "later this year".
It's now February, and the free concert still hasn't happened. For those of you doing the math at home, "this year" has come and gone, and it's now "next year", and Philadelphia Soul/Bon Jovi fans (all 6 of them) are still waiting to see their 46 year old (almost 47) hero and team owner relive the 80's with his crappy music.
What's the bigger story here? That Bon Jovi is stiffing Philly? Or that there are actually enough people who wrote to Philadelphia columnist John Gonzalez asking about it?
Regardless, I'd still like to take a moment to say that no matter how much his music sucks, how washed up he is, or how badly I would NEVER want to attend one of his concerts, Jon Bon Jovi owes it to Philly. If any city deserves a free concert from a band who hasn't been relevent since the 80's, it's Philadelphia.
