Jon Lester No-Hitter [MLB Walk-Off]
"Un-F-ing-Believable"
5/20/08
Because just one video doesn't do it justice, here's the NESN call of Jon Lester's no-hitter on Monday night with bonus celebratory f-bomb from a teammate.
Here's some reaction from around Red Sox Nation:
9 IP, 9 Ks, 2 BB, ZERO! H "Jon Lester's no-hitter is proof that cancer is not necessarily the end of life, but more specifically, it's not the end of the individual's life. Jon Lester beat cancer and came back to return to doing what he's wanted to do for many years: be a Major League pitcher. He now has accomplished something truly historical as a Major League pitcher. For all the things that we deal with in this life that are negative, this is a truly positive event to be enjoyed and shared. I know it's not something Jon Lester takes for granted." - Over the Monster
It's time to celebrate the career, not the comeback - "Let's not short-change Lester and make this wonderful moment all about cancer. Fact of the matter is, Lester deserves better than that from both media and fans alike. He deserves to be able to bask in the spotlight as what he now is: A growing talent who is quickly carving a longterm career for himself as a Major League starter. He deserves to take a bow and bask in the glory that goes with making a kind of history that many Major Leaguers never achieve, including Hall of Fame candidates from our generation like Pedro Martinez, Greg Maddux and Curt Schilling. Most importantly, though, Lester deserves recognition for his rapid maturation as a pitcher this season, as he becomes a starter who can be counted on for good-to-great performances more and more often." - Red Sox Monster
And summing it up perfectly...
And Stars Fell on Lansdowne "For those of you keeping score: In 2006, Jon Lester was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma. In 2007, he won the clinching game of the World Series. In 2008, just a few hours ago in fact, he pitched his first complete game--a motherf@#king no hitter against the Kansas City Royals." - Surviving Grady
Anything else happen last night in baseball?
A fat catcher runs the bases Only at Minute Maid park can a guy like Geovany Soto pull of an inside-the-park home run. He's the first catcher to pull off the feat since 1959. Highlight of the video is Aramis Ramirez and Kosuke Fukudome trying to get him to slide into home plate when it wasn't necessary at all.
Cubs cruise to another win. Cubs 7, Astros 2.
Blake DeWitt is DeHit The Dodgers rookie is now 6-6 with 12 RBI's in bases loaded situations, the last of those runs batted in coming last night with a game-winning single in the bottom of the 9th. Dodgers 6, Reds 5.
That whole elbow still seems fine Some idiot blogger predicted that Albert Pujols would only make it a few months into the season, succumbing to his bad elbow and leaving the Cardinals without any offensive pop. All seems fine still for Alberto, two more home runs last night for 11 on the season. The bigger surprise is that Ryan Ludwick has one more than his teammate. Cardinals 8, Padres 2.
