Blog Photo - Jonathan Papelbon thinks Yasiel Puig shouldn't be an All-StarThere has been a lot of talk about rookie Yasiel Puig possibly making the All-Star game, thanks to his torrid start since being promoted to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon is less than thrilled with that idea, and less than impressed with Puig as a whole.

In about a month in the majors, Puig is hitting .443 with 8 HR and 17 RBI. The Dodgers are 15-11 since he arrived, after starting the season incredibly poorly. He has played a huge part in turning around the team and righting the Dodgers' ship. Because of this, lots of people are claiming that he should be an All-Star.

Papelbon, on the other hand, seems to believe that Puig's inclusion in the All-Star game would be a slap in the face to the veterans who have played in the league for years and paid their dues.

"The guy's got a month, I don't even think he's got a month in the big leagues. Just comparing him to this and that, and saying he's going to make the All-Star team, that's a joke to me. It's just really what happens in baseball when … to me it really does an injustice to the veteran players that have been in the game for eight-, nine-, 10-plus years. It kind of does them an injustice because they've worked so hard to stay there."

He has a point. In fact, saying that Puig should be granted a spot on the All-Star roster over a proven veteran would be like...

Well, it would be kinda like a 4th-year closer saying that he should close the All-Star game if there's a save situation...

In the final season in his team's biggest rival's stadium ...

Over the home team's closer ...

Who is indisputably the greatest closer of all time ...

Yeah... kinda like Papelbon in 2008.

if I'm managing the NL, I'd probably want Puig on my team.
It's a shame people in the Central and Eastern timezones don't get to see him

That being said, All Star teams are mostly a farce anyway and I don't think they should hold that much weight when assessing a player's career at the end
